Hey! That does not sounds dumb at all. You can do either. You need a wiring kit for the premium sound system to keep the JBL amp. Works pretty good for me, has a couple downfalls, e.g. that there is a possibility of clipping if you put the volume of the head unit too high, as the JBL amp uses...
