1984 Lincoln Mark VII Turbo Diesel

I joined the Lincolns of Distinction group to get some help with my 1984 Lincoln Mark VII Turbo Diesel. I ordered a fuel pump from the local auto parts store. I believe this is a generic pump that is installed outside the fuel tank. I would like to know if anyone has had to replace the fuel pump on their Lincoln Turbo Diesel. The fuel pump I purchased is an Airtex E2324, the same as Delphi FE0323. The fuel pump installation instructions are vague. Not sure if the diesel engine cars had the fuel pump in the fuel tank like the gasoline engine cars. I plan to install the pump in the engine compartment, close to a power source. This was my father's car that has been parked for awhile and this is the first time working on getting it started. Thank you, David

I can't help with specifics other than confirm the pump is listed as a replacement pump (according to RockAuto). From the appearance of the pump it looks to be external of the fuel tank. I would find the OEM location to replace it. I would recommend replacing the fuel filter as well.

Welcome! :)

Welcome, David!

Congratulations on owning one very rare car. The Mark VII is rare enough, but I don't think I've ever seen one of the Diesel versions "in the flesh." Very, very cool.

I can't confess to knowing any more about your fuel system than the other posters here, but I'm very curious about the car itself. I'm glad to hear you're keeping it on the road.

You may also want to check in with our friends in the Lincoln Mark VII club. They'll have a lot of information specific to the Mark VII (http://www.thelincolnmarkviiclub.org/)

Thank you for all your responses. I found out the fuel pump is located below the injection pump. I removed the fuel tank and found out the sending unit and pickup tube was damaged, so the fuel pump may be okay. I cleaned out the fuel tank, repaired the pickup tube, replaced the fuel hoses, replaced the fuel filter and now the Lincoln Mark VII Diesel is back together. The next thing is put in 5 gallons of diesel in the tank, charge the batter and test the fuel pump. I will report back later. I will eventually post this 1984 Lincoln Mark VII on this forum for sale.

All the best,

David

That's great news! The pickup tube must have been an easier part to find then. Could you tell the source of the damage? I'd think a part like that would be pretty well protected..
