1998 Mark VIII CE

I've been on the forum for a while but I have yet to formally introduce myself. So here goes.
I sold my '01 Mustang GT for my first Mark 8/2011. It's a '98 Collectors Edition, with the original paint job, there are some bumps and bruises, but overall the car is in great shape to be 14 years old now.
I drove the car home from Philadelphia to Raleigh and I was pretty disappointed with the performance and thought maybe I made a mistake swapping a modded Mustang for a Lincoln that needed a hell of a tune up. The mileage on the 2 cars were within 1000 miles of one another, and the Mustang SOHC outran my wifes Charger R/T in 1/4 mile.
Here's what I've done to the Lincoln so far; and it has made all the difference:
-Pulled fuel injectors and soaked overnight
-Cleaned K&N filter
-Removed silencer
-Replaced camshaft position sensor, crankshaft position sensor, throttle position sensor, and idle air control assembly.
-Cobra intake swap
-EGR delete
-Spark plugs
-Ignition coil boots
-Change out of engine oil, trans fluid, brake fluid, power steering fluid, and differential.
-SCT mail order tune
Up next:
-New brake pads
-New rotors
-MR100 Air Compressor assembly(part is en route due to bad vent solenoid)
More pictures to follow. Any advice/criticism is welcome.

Welcome to LOD! Sounds like a nice car you got there. I went from a worked 5.0L Notch to a bone stock '90 Super Coupe so I know the feeling! I don't regret leaving the Mustang scene hopefully you feel the same way in time.

Welcome, Sounds like you're on the right track and can't wait for pictures. So do you like it better than the Mustang now. I like mine more than than the 03 Cobra. Where are you from ??

I appreciate the welcomes to the site. I took a few pics of the car, sorry it's dark, I'm on night shift and have a busy schedule.
Don-I'm in Fuquay Varina about half an hour north of Fayetteville. And yes I do like the Mark better than the Mustang. The Mustang has a lot of pro's(ease of finding replacement parts), and some cons(replacing a clutch is never fun).
The Mark is a lot quieter, more luxurious, it's a sleeper even if exhausted, and gets better gas mileage too. You never have to replace the clutch, and it is a unique car.

Dyno results

Brand new from the factory, the Mark VIII LSC/CE came with 290bhp. Going by the old rule of thumb, 20% drivetrain loss for an automatic, the car should have had about 232 rwhp 'ish brand new. I've installed a Cobra intake manifold, k&n air filter, aluminum driveshaft, and removed the air intake silencer. All for a net gain of around 4 rwhp or 5 hp at the crank.
I would expect to have at least another 10 hp somewhere. Has the car lost this much power just in wear of the drivetrain/suspension and not being able to plant the power to the ground? Or is this an expected value?
Let me know what you guys think.
Thanks,
Patrick

They should have run it out a bit more, the HP curve was still climbing.

I made 257 RWHP @ 6K right after I swapped to the Cobra intake.

Did they tune it on the dyno or just did a pull on the dyno?

I would expect 10-15 HP more from a good tune.

That power is fine at that RPM. Spin it and you will make more. Keep in mind it sounds like the car has a fully stock exhaust.

4R70W is a power hungry SOB.

It does have a stock exhaust and they did tune it on the Dyno. They had all day one day and part of the morning the next. I guess I'll look at other folks Dyno sheets and compare. But based on what you guys said, it's probably about where it should be. I did tell them that I was losing power over 5000 rpm's, so it kind of ticks me off that they stopped at 5360. I guess initially I just thought it was at max hp at that rpm.

Maybe I'll call on Monday and see why he stopped there. Is it possible that he stoped there because he felt like he had enough data?

With "LOD" Since 1997
you can't compare other dyno sheets to other cars on deferent dynos on different days, just too many variables.
