1998 Mark VIII Vehicle Speed Sensor

I'm trying to tie a Pioneer AVIC-8100NEX into the VSS on the Mark. It shows it's pin 58 (GREY/bk) on the PCM (VSS+) but when I hook it to the Pioneer it still doesn't see it as the VSS. For the fun of it when I "unspliced" the gr/bk wire I left it disconnected and took a drive. My speedo still worked... I'm like so confused. I read on another Mark VIII forum it also can be the DG/Y on the passenger side because it ties to the GREY/BK on the PCM. The schematic does show this but... Does anyone have any idea which is the correct wire?

You can bypass the "motion sensor" if you like. Here is a link on how to do this.

I have a AVIC D2, and can play a DVD while driving by bypassing the sensor.

Here is a link to a great web site called AVIC411.com that is a great help.

I found a screen on the AVIV-8100NEX under System Information which shows speed pulses (3d Calibration).

When I first stumbled on the page it showed the head unit had received pulses so I ran a temporary wire back to the grey/black wire, pin 58, on the PCM and took a drive. It is reading pulses so this VSS+ wire is the correct one.

It is now permanently hooked up and doing good.

The unit has to thru a 3d calibration period which it is currently doing although it's been 3 days and about 500 miles since it was hooked up.

I created an account on AVIC411 but never received the validation email so it won't let me access it. I've tried used to have it resend the validation but so far no joy. I've checked junk mail folders and written the site admin but so far am still locked out.

It looks like w really good forum and I'm hoping my access will be fixed.

Thanks for the info!
