85 Mustang Coupe/MKVIII project.

The biggest challenge that will face me on the Coupe project is the integration of the Lincoln MKVII air-ride system and making it driver-controllable for ride height. After studying some of the wiring diagrams I have, I figured it out and hope to start on the control side of the harness soon. I will need to pirate a MKVII for some hard components (there are two in a salvage yard close to my dads place) and some more of the underhood side of the harness. Nest hardest portion will be the welding of Capri quarters/Mustang wheelwell lips and Capri front fender modifications to incorporate the Mustang wheelwell lips (I will be tucking 19" x 8.5" wheels front and 19" x 10.5" wheels rear. Mini-tubs up in the modified Mustang/Capri wheel wells will give me the room I need to stuff her in the weeds at car shows and for cruising.

Car will be resting quietly until I can get all of the parts needed for the integration of Air Ride. Late spring I should have it all together and ready for the sheetmetal mayhem to get it all fit in.

Most of the progress, if any, will be of acquiring/acquired parts, until I can get the cars down to me.

I was going to ask how the frame rails were until I saw the pic of them. Not as bad as I thought they would be considering the other rust.

Good luck with it. I know it's hard to come by clean coupes for a good price, especially a 4-eyed Fox coupe.

I sold this car to markup97, and I feel bad for letting this car sit for as long as it has. I had too many irons in the fire at the time, and the car had some of the cleanest frame rails when I first got it. It sat on a hill at one of my buddy's house for a while, and all the moisture ran down hill, then he and I had a falling out, and I moved it next to my other friends barn, where it sat in a low spot, and started to rust :(

I'm really glad to see Brad doing *most* of the things that I really wanted to do to this car. The GT interior was one thing I really wanted to do. I was heart broken when I had to sell it, but seeing the passion and all-out A.D.D. that Brad ALSO has for mustangs, like myself, I'm glad it went to someone who will take care of it.

It just went (along with its sister 84 TurboGT Mustang) to the storage unit for about a 5-6 month nap (until I get vacation from my new job and money saved up to come get them). I will still be gathering parts for it as money/time allow, and once I get the car down to Florida it will really start to undergo the transformation.

I am like you Jesse, too many irons in the fire. I just cut up my 86GT T-top car and sold off all of the engine/exhaust parts for my 91GT. The 91GT went to a friends house as he is either buying it or taking it to Columbus and trying to get what I want out of it there. If it doesn't sell there, I shot him a price he is ok with and will take it off my hands. I know I am not going the direction you wanted to take it, Jesse, but it will see the road again. It may be quite a bit different from every other Mustang as well (yes, I am keeping it a 4-eye as I LOVE the 4-eye styling) considering the parts I have for it and the parts I have coming. I really don't want to keep it an auto, but it will stay that way for a while.

I know all about the too many irons in the fire thing Jesse... I'm plenty guilty of that myself! I don't feel as bad letting the SC and Mark sit in the garage like they do but I still hate to have them sitting, I know it's the worst thing you can do to a car. My friend has (2) '86 SVOs, he's had them for years now. One (the nicer low mileage one) sits in the driveway, sometimes covered... the other one has been sitting on his lawn for an easy 4+ years, it was a pretty clean car before it got put on the lawn. Now the A pillar is rotted out, the frame rails are trash, the car looks just horrible. It's now nothing more than a parts car, such a shame! :frown:

I'm glad you get to see Brad fix up your old beloved Notch. My old '89 Notch I did a 5.0 conversion in was my baby, the Fox I had always wanted. I had saved up 2K to get it painted Emerald Green when I found my SC and decided to cut my loses with the Notch. My OCD got out of hand with it and I got in over my head trying to make stuff perfect you would never see. I sold it cheap to someone in town and used to go by the guy's house here and there to see it until one day he trashed it and junked it... :frown-blue:

Sorry for the hi-jack Brad, at least it's fox coupe related ;)

I have an '88 hatchback Mustang that I've had in the garage for about 7 or 8 years now, and it's on a homemade rotisserie getting the underside all cleaned up. It started life also as a 4cyl 5spd car, but will be a 5.0 5spd car when done. With GT ground effects. It will be the GT I always wanted to make my '89 into before I wrecked it. Full drag suspension, and a stock motor/trans. So I'll be squeezing every ounce of power out of the stock drivetrain that I can.... It too pretty much was a victim of complete OCD, and the phrase "well while it's apart I might as well do this, and if thats off of it, I might as well do that" to the point where it is a bare shell now. It escalated quickly. It's slowing coming back together. I almost have all the rear suspension sorted out.

Now if I could only get back down to my race weight :frown-blue:
