A New and Different Project

I have decided my next project is the transformation of our Town Car. It is a 2006 Designer edition. My favorite pic from the past...

Big and bold - the goal of the project is to basically make it a bit stealthy, somewhat more powerful and otherwise a true 'sleeper' that could be in contention for the title of "Hot Rod Lincoln".

For appearances, I'd like to 'darken' the overall picture; delete some chrome, smoke the headlamps and tail lamps and de-badge all but the Lincoln star emblems. The dark limo tint already in place adds to the theme.

Suspension upgrades include heavier sway bars and replacement control arms with performance shocks. Big deep-dish black wheels, staggered if possible but not too big so as to trade off performance. I'm thinking of lowering it somewhat but again not so much as to be a detriment to handling. (That is if there is such a thing as handling and performance in a Town Car.)

Drivetrain modifications include the obligatory stall converter, J-mod, transmission cooler and aluminum driveshaft to transfer the power to the built limited slip differential with a set of 3.73 gears. I'd like to add a differential cooler as well.

A true dual exhaust with headers, compact catalytic converters and tunable mufflers would replace the stock exhaust setup.

The 4.6 SOHC engine - here's where the fun begins. I'm torn between a naturally aspirated head/cam/intake swap, a low-boost intercooled positive displacement supercharger or a turbo setup. Besides budget considerations, there's pros and cons for all the choices. Imagine sitting at a stop light and you see a big black Town Car pull along beside you but you then become distracted and confused by the distinctively lopey deep-bass cam at idle; or unmistakable whine of an Eaton blower or perhaps the recognizable whistle of the turbo spooling just as the light turn green...

and as fast as it appeared, it's gone. :fart

I'm not looking to make the big Lincoln a track car, just something fun to drive when you want it to be fun or just something comfortable on those occasional long drives. One of the cars of choice to take to the neighborhood convenience mart or the car of choice to take on an interstate trip to visit family. When it is all said and done, it will likely still be a daily driver. :)

The purpose of this thread is to discuss options and keep me motivated. It is not going to start anytime soon and it will likely take months to be anywhere near complete. There is no time schedule but I was thinking it would be beneficial to have a goal in mind.

Hmmm... 2017 Power Tour Town Car???

If it were my town car I'd swap a coyote with a six speed into her, it's still somewhat budget minded and definitely not something someone has done (to my knowledge) before.

I think it's funny when the F body/stang guys think they build sleepers, you have to start with a car like the Town Car to stay stealthy.

I look forward to the progress and will hopefully see you on HRPT17.

Oh I know... it seems all the cool kids are doing coyote swaps. :(

I really have no interest in such a swap and even less in a 6 speed. I don't want to be rowing gears in a Town Car... I just want to mash the go pedal. :smile-purple:

Exactly.

Also: Yes, yes, yes. I'm very much behind this idea. I still love those wheels on that car, too.

It is very likely I'll be scrapping or parting out the '99 soon. If you need anything from it, let me know. One item of interest may be that mine is the "touring sedan" edition, which has body-colored trim where yours has chrome. I assume most would fit, but maybe not the front bumper trim?

Always liked the newer Town Cars but it wasn't until I was active in LOD and started seeing them with wheels, etc. that I started thinking they could be hot cars. Best of luck with the 'build'; can't wait to follow along.

The chrome trim probably needs to go... there's an "Insane Rides" shop in town that does custom work. I've been wanting to stop by there and gauge their facilities and prowess. They may be able to help out with some ideas.

tork tech eaton swap kit on the 2 valve.
stall up the 4r70w and run 3.55s or 3.73s.
That is one of the power adder options on the table and it may be one of the more economical routes.

I plan on a 3600 stall converter and 3.73s. :wink2-green

Hmm...Big and bold. How about some 24"s with spinners.
Not THAT bold! LOL... 20's maybe if the right wheel/tire combo comes along. :tongue-pink:

Good luck with your build! There really is performance and handling in Town cars that most people never thought twice about. Mine was a sleeper until I put the wing on her. Hope to meet you at Carlisle so we can kick some ideas around.

I feel they have potential but what I like most is it is not something you would expect to see. I feel it could be up to par with any other modified panther platform such as a Crown Vic or even a Marauder but with a splash of Lincoln class. :wink2-green
