ABS fault code by counting ABS light flashes on Gen 1 - how to??

Hello All,

Could you please post a quick note on how to trigger the ABS light to flash and count the flashes to determine the ABS malfunction code on gen 1? I discovered the ABS test connector but haven't got an ABS tester (only an OBD-1 tester) and I want to know, at a minimum, which pins on this connector should I short with a paper clip to trigger the ABS in-dash light to flash to count the flashes. I assume this is a KOEO test, right?

Any info on this testing method is greatly appreciated as my search did not reveal anything meaningful. Thanks.

History: ABS light is on after a tow for legally parking overnight on a regular (if there's such thing as anything "regular") street in LA, de-facto capital of DPRK (Democrat-led People's Republik of Kahlifoohniah), therefore ABS is disabled, albeit I learned to drive without ABS, like in the old days... Replaced ABS module at the advice of my (not so smart) indie who said a while ago that he scanned it and the module was bad, but to no avail.

The actual ABS diagnostic connector is an OBD1 style connector with 3 wires. Turn the car off, and remove the connector so you have access to it. The Pins are arranged as follows:

----1--2---
3--4--5--6

Pin number 2 is a black ground wire, and pins 4 and 5 are the only other wires on the connector. They are green and white IIRC. Connect these two pins to each other and leave the ground alone. Turn the key on, and watch the ABS light blink to get the code number.

I'd check the front wheel sensors. Tow guy might have pulled wire. On my 95 light would come on as soon as I got up to 15 mph. Problem was bad wheel bearing, would get hot, and over greased front end that allowed grease to get on the sensor, and baked it on. Had to scrape sensor to get stuff off, and it checked out ok with a meter compared to a new sensor.
The flashing light isn't perfect. I tried it while my tester was being repaired, and it came up, bad EGR, 3 times. Got the tester back, and it came up DPFE bad. Changed it and no more light. Got lucky, changing the EGR is not easy on Gen 1.

Thanks. Will try and check the front wheel sensors if I can find info on where they are located and how they look like. Yes, the dead giveaway of the really bad tow job is a dent in the rocker panel behind each front wheel. I almost sues the m0F0$ but I learned that the mayor of Redondo Beach (or was it Torrance?) was also the owner of the towing company who was contacted by police to tow cars parked “illegally”. Go figure... 100% DPRK
