ABS/Traction Control issue

I moved this thread to here as it makes more sense now that I know what the problem is.

So as mentioned I took my 98 Mark 8 into the shop to find out what was making a grinding noise in the front of my car, and why i could feel the break pedal vibrating and sinking in. Well I took it to my mechanic, good guy but unfortunately he had no idea what was wrong so he and I agreed to put new calipers and pads on. I wanted new ones anyway.

Well went out to pick it up and you guessed it, the problem was still there. I turned back in the shop, took the owner out with me for a ride, and after he heard the car and felt the tugging from when I put on the breaks. So, when we came back the ABS light came on and the dash computer said, Check Traction Control.

In a word, HELP!!!

All I can think of now is that this is going to get really expensive. I have already shelled out 500 bucks for something that didnt fix the problem, so any incite would be great.

Thanks all

Have the car scanned for codes anybody could tell you that don't waste money guessing as far as your mechanic goes well that is another story

I'm all ears here, cause' I have a problem too. Things work fine, until it rains or snows (great timing) then I get the fail warning. Thinking it's a bad connection, but never got around to looking for it. Must be the rear, because it's sure to happen after a snowy wheel spin.

A bad sensor can cause all sorts of odd intermittent problems. If it is generating bad electrical signals your computer can get confused. Since it is a 98 you will have to find a used set.

Here is an oddball.

Last time I had my traction control warning come on it was due to a charging system problem. Seems when the volts go down it is the first thing to go. Easy enough to check with a multi meter. My charging system warning light apparently doesn't come on until 9 volts or something ridiculous.

Thanks Team,

Ill check my OBD app/senser tomorrow. My michanic says, "the sensor that is being triggered is the drivers rear .. we recommend swapping out all 4 sensors on all four wheels .. hope this helps thanks ... "

Thoughts???

Thanks again.

I would recommend just changing the bad one, they don't go bad very often.:)

I would hold on to the others for spares.

good point, if the others go bad, I could simply pay for them then as apposed to pay for all at once.

Thanks!

Change just one and see how it goes. Your mechanic might not be TOTALLY trying to rape you but I'd keep my hand on my wallet around him in the future if I were u.
