After 2800 miles, our Lincoln is home!

I've mentioned before, we purchased a one-owner, 21K mile 97 LSC. Well, we made it home, driving it back from Phoenix, AZ with side trips to the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, and the California Border (just to say it was there :D )

We took as much of Route 66 as we had time for as well. Over 5 gigs of pics were taken and once sorted, links will be posted to share.

Here's one at the Canyon (yes I know, the wheels are backwards, they are being rebalanced, and mounted the correct way this week):

I'm pretty critical about cars, so once I saw it with my own eyes, I've given it a 7.5 out of 10. With a pretty serious detailing, it might get to a 9. Old people can be kinda careless with their cars. Low mileage doesn't necessary mean "perfect".

We're very satisfied with it though, we feel we got a good deal. It's a real neat car.

After driving a 1999 Monte Carlo Z34 for the last 5 years, the Mark is a completely different animal. I was hoping for a little more room, as I think the Monte has a bit more room in it. The Monte also has more areas to cram things for sure.

Once I'm more accustomed with it, I'm sure I'll have many more stories to share.

This is true. Less than a year ago I bought a 16k original mile '98 Mark (now has 23k miles) and it looked like hell when I picked it up on the outside. Lights were foggy and needed a real good exterior cleaning. Thing had cobwebs everywhere. Old lady that owned it passed and it sat around for awhile under a carport. Once that was done and the headlights were refurbished it was like new......well except for the "lasagne" rear window on one side. Great cars and much nicer than your previous car. Enjoy it.

Sharp Car you will love it. I have had mine only 6 months and wouldnt trade it for anything. I have already started stocking up on parts that I can find. It is going in for some work soon. New plugs coils o2 sensors. I have already purchased a full set of bags. You will need those at some point. You will never want to get rid of that car. Enjoy

Thanks Guys. Really do like it. Somebody around here mentioned "does your car bring a smile to you face everytime you start it or look at it?" This one sure does.

I'm sure it will clean up very nicely. After the trip home, I washed all the road grime off and realized it doesn't really have any wax on it so a some rub & buff is in order there.

The rest of the body is in real nice shape with only 3 very minor dings in it. Maybe the paintless removal could get them out. I need them to fix a couple in our 2000 Cougar while they're at it. It has a couple of 1/4" "puncture wounds" in the rear bumper cover. I'm hoping those can be fixed.

Will need to get the neon tailight functioning again. We knew it wasn't working when we bought it. No signs of moisture in it. Guess I need to get a hold of "glitch."

The interior has a bunch of funk on the seats, door panels, etc. I hit one of the worst parts with some Meguiars leather cleaner with a toothbrush and most of it came off in about 5 minutes. Need several bottles and maybe a fingernail brush to fix all that. Anybody recommend anything better?

Need to clean the engine too, it's got a pretty nice film of Arizona dust all over it. I'm hoping it "preserved" it to some degree.:D

I've had mine for nearly 10 years and almost 400,000 miles and there are very FEW cars that I would "give up" my Mark 8 for.

maybe a 2000+ vette or 03/04 cobra..or.. maybe a 96LSC but other than that.. I'm very happy with this car.

It seems, the "NEW" just never wears off {for me}

Sweet ride. Low mileage mark VIIIs are worth a lot of money in comparison to the higher mileage counterparts. Looks like you got the ever so popular Torredor Red LSC combo ;)

Beautiful Mark VIII.

I like the background on that photo.

These cars are great.

I've had my red Mark for about 7 years now (or is it 8) I still love it. I had to buy another one just in case.:D

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

Other than the style, power, and luxury of these Marks, one of the other reasons we got one is the strong enthusiast following they have. It's great to see many people "tweaking" them (esp. Mr. Schultz' quite an inspiration).

To quote some goofy TV show, we are certainly "car crazy." The Mark is #7 in the "fleet" consisting of:
1968 Impala 2dr HT
1978 Chevy Silverado LWB
1982 Champion Transtar Motorhome (real cherry original)
1988 Eldorado Starfire Motorhome (see in Lincoln other)
1999 Monte Carlo Z34
2000 Cougar V6.

It also runs in the family as my Mom drives a 2007 Corvette and my Dad has a 2005 GTO, both 6 speeds.

See y'all on the road.

Congrats! Beautiful shot.

And yes, nearly 7 years later my baby still brings a smile to my face. :D

My wife hardly ever "lets" me drive the Mark i bought it for her over a year ago and we put most our miles on my conti. I got her to test drive it and i said be careful..... she asked why and i instructed her to just pull out on the road straighten out the wheel and push it down 3/4 of the way just enough to make the car drop that gear.... man were her knuckles white, and she was sold on the lincoln way.
