Air Ride Suspension Life

On Work Release
Did you replace the compressor already? If not you may want to try using a jumper wire to the battery to see if it is still alive.

The compressor runs fine when you do the self test correct?

That rules out the compressor, relay, and wiring going to the comperssor.

What's left? Sensors, wires, air ride module, solenoids.

If you are sure the sensors are good and in range (all below parked height) I'd check the connections and wires to the sensors, starting with the one you first removed. Look for damage or green copper oxide on the wire or insulation, then check for continuity.

For the solenoids, While checking the wires, I'd try just plugging in the old solenoids to the wires (don't put them in the new airsprings for the test) and see if it goes farther with the self test (longshot :D).

I've heard of modules going bad, but I think it's rare.

I can't find the link but if I recall correctly, the system tests all the solenoids before it fires the compressor then checks the height sensors after the compressor test. If I am correct, doesn't that mean one of the height sensors or associated wiring is the problem?

This is what I posted earlier...To quote myself:

Here is a list of the actions I took to fix my system error. This error started a few days after I changed the drivers strut. When I replaced it:

1. I never changed the front struts before but it was easy enough. There is a spunge inside a plastic cap in the solenoid. This spunge was sitting crooked inside the cap so I placed it flush.

2. Changed o-rings and applied D-grease.

3. I let the sensor dangle to get a fold out of the strut and reattached it.:wink2-green

4. The rear bag still had a leak that I would replace that weekend but the rear got slammed and System error.

5. Disconnected neg battery terminal for 5 min. then reconnected.

6. K/o error.:(

7. Connected test light to test connector plug 2; solenoids clicked, compressor came on for 1 sec, then nothing... no height test occurred.:err-what?:

8. Replaced P/S H/S, keyed on, error.

9. Switched replacement H/S from P/S to D/S, keyed on, error. :confused-red:

10. Got rear H/S replaced, K/o...error.:(

11. Replaced all original H/S.

12. Finally replaced leaky rear P/S bag.

13. Jacked D/S rear to get out of slam.

14. K/o...:mad-tilt:
I have more time tonight to run the self test and check the solenoid connections.

Thanks, Billcu, I have one front and a rear sensor. I will put them in and cross my fingers. Unless these are bad too... Where do these usually corrode?

I've actually only seen one bad sensor myself.

Try swapping different combinations of your sensors around and key on and off a few times for each combination. Make sure the car is at a height where it should start raising and the doors are closed.

If it still doesn't work, take a good close look at the wires and connectoes to the sensors. Check the wires to the sensors and the wires from the plug to the air ride module. Any cut or scrape in the insulation usually means corroded green copper inside. Even if they look OK they could be bad inside.

If the wires look OK, it's time to check them for continuity from the air ride module to the sensor plug.

Sorry it took me so long to respond folks.
I swapped out the sensors, no good... I am embarraced to say that I have no clue where the module is....:D

Do a google search for the ASHAM8 instructions... some of the best pics of the suspension module and connector pinouts are there.

So, on a 93 the suspension moduleis inside the car...
There should be no corrosion there.
I guess I need to follow the wires back from the sensors and look for cuts.
Otherwise, I see no corrosion at the connections they're all clean and purdy.

How do I clear the hard fault from the computer?

The hard fault will clear itself once the problem is resolved. The suspension module does the self test each time the key is turned on.

The connections at the sensors look clean an purdy.
Is there somewhere else I am supposed to be looking for corrosion in the wires?
The next thing would be the possiblity of a bad vent solenoid. Does this mean I need a new compressor?
Also, I am having a hard time getting that plastic intake chamber next to the fender out.

Yeah, I did that, but right next to the dryer is this big plastic thing that channels the air to the filter.
I guess I can get a pic of it, and what da heck is the silencer?

Yup that is the silencer, lots of us have removed them.
