Air to springs ET AL (a little long)

While I enjoyed the air suspension on my Mark I knew if I kept it it would run more money then I could afford to keep the air, besides I don't have the trouble shooting skills most of you have nor the mechanical skills .....I also did it so I don't have the stress of knowing something is going to go wrong, just don't know when.... So I opted to go to a coil suspension.....I also changed the upper and lower control arms, stabilizer bar links and most everything else that had to do with the suspension.....The job itself was pretty straight forward.... WE did this Saturday the 7th and it took all day....I say we because I have a friend (a good friend) who came over to help.....it took 7 hours and I finished putting it back together on Monday for 5 hours....I'm slow.... purchased the kit from Eddie....the rest of the parts from Amazon and Parts Geek,Rock Auto .....Hopefully this will be the last time I crawl under my Mark....I've come to a point in my life (73) where I just want to enjoy the car and think taking care of this major endevour will last at least 100k @ 10-12k a year or until I stop driving....Oh, the car will be maintained in the condition it is now which is a excellent driver, no dents.chips or dings.....paint is also excellent....Thanks for letting me post this.....bruce Senior Citizen :)

the air ride is not that complicated but you did what you needed to do and sounds like all went well, so enjoy your mark

As far as I'm concerned, you are "doing it right." You are enjoying heck out of your Mark VIII. I'm glad the conversion went well! With fresh suspension all the way around, it should treat you well for many years.

I just hope I can change the suspension parts on my Mark when I'm 73 years old, I'm slowing down pushing 60.:D

Good job. I've been swapping just the front air springs with coils on my beater lately. That can be a bit of a job in the driveway, on jack stands. I'd take 2 days for front and rear too. :)

Congrats Bruce! I swapped to coils on my silver 98LSC and I don't regret it at all. The car rides just fine on coils and handles well. There is nothing about the ride quality or behavior of the car that has me saying, " why in the hell did I do that?" My car isn't laying on the ground anymore and it is still a blast to drive. Enjoy your problem-free suspension. You may start to realize that this is a very divided topic. Some cringe at the fact of a Mark8 on nothing other than factory airride. I don't lose sleep over it. I made the switch, and I enjoy the car just as much. I am more bitter about the fact that I switched to Sprint for my cell service. They suck! LOL
