If you're drag racing exclusively then yes, it'll help spool up faster but for daily cars a steel one will be better because of the inertia from the extra mass.
That being said I have an aluminum one in my 5 speed non track Mark VIII and I have nothing bad to say. It was just a great deal and I needed one on the spot.
