Another day at the track...

I took the Blue Flame out to the track today - the third time on the new setup and perhaps the last outing of the year with tracks closing for the winter soon. This time was Cecil County Dragway near Rising Sun, MD.

Long story short, the best run was the first run of seven.

RT - 0.086
60' - 1.691
330' - 5.047
1/8 - 7.918 @ 84.72
1000' - 10.455
1/4 - 12.623 @ 103.98

Not a new best to beat last week's 12.55 ET, but it was a good day none the less. :D

Wow, now that is launching! :D
LOL... got the attention of a few at the track. :D

Even the track officials tracked me down in the pits. They figured they saw a 12 second car running "donuts" up front (space saver spares). They were a wee bit surprised to see 17" M&H front runners.

Driller, are you going to mess with the intake setup any? Do you think it would then have low 12s? :)

I managed to get a couple more datalogs, enough to tell me it needs some more tuning. As far as the intake, I may make it a winter project just to put the theory of the Cobra intake to test. ;)

You should talk with someone like Mike Schultz and see what he says about taking it a step further with a Cobra intake and doing a "short runner" setup with it. I don't know enough about it, but I have heard of boosted 96-98 Cobras doing this with their intake and gaining some decent top end grunt(20rwhp) over the top of what the Cobra intake alone will offer when it is untouched. It's a fine line though and I don't think you want to go too short, but it would be nice if you could find someone with the experience and a valid opinion that you could work off of just as an idea.

Show me the money. LOL :D

I have researched this to death. I just so happen to have most of what I need to do this, so it is just a matter of convincing myself of the need to do it. I can modify one of the Cobra intakes I have or pick one from someone like Paul's High Performance.

What I'd really like to see done is a flow comparison of a modified Gen1 intake vs. the Cobra short-runner. I may just disassemble a Gen1 intake and a Cobra intake to do some port volume comparisons followed by some theoretical math.

Meanwhile, I need to study some datalogs.

I like the way you think. ;)

Great runs. Shows I need to work on my 60ft times. I and a group of TCCOA members are meeting at Fayetteville NC Motorsport Park (drag strip) on November 27. There will be several Supercharged Thunderbirds and my Supercharged Mark VIII and some Cougars, Marks, and Thunderbirds. Would love to see you all come join us.

According to the datalogs I looked at, the car is really flat in third gear. I am suspecting lack of fuel or air at the top. I still need more data to be clear.

Do you think your trap speed is a little low?

Maybe, there was a significant headwind at times.

Here's what I don't like... (note car is launched against stall at 2700-2800, converter hits about 4600-4700, the actual 1-2 shift is right at 7000 when commanded at 6300 and the actual 2-3 shift is just shy of 7000)

Peak rpm in 3rd is 6260. But that's just it, the car doesn't seem to be accelerating like it should and it actually loses rpm towards the end.

It didn't do it all the time, but I got lucky and managed to log it one time it did. The MAF looks OK but I caught the AFR spiking up/down as well. I'd have to look at the slips what the ET/MPH was, but I know I wasn't happy. When I got back to the pits and saw the logs, I knew why.

Here is all 3 Excel graphs together...

I dont like the roughness of that first graph looks like a fuel problem of some sort. maybe not enough pump?
