Any pics/details of where to drill drain holes for neon center section gen II?

My neon doesn't work, regularly has water, and is moldy/full of black gunk.

Does anyone have any pictures of where they drilled the drains? I take it I should be doing this from the back, and through the reflector, without separating all the bits? Is it safe to pour liquid (water, and some sort of cleaner or bleach) into these holes and try to clean it out so that when I install the Glitch ballast I have ordered it is clean, and doesn't wipe out the new one?

I had planned on leaving the center bar off the vehicle until I got the ballast, but the missing weight makes the trunk violently open with the remote, and I guess I could duct tape the opening closed (we are expecting rain this week) but I think I should reinstall it until the ballast comes in, but I would like to get it cleaned up.

I think the previously recommended spots were in the bottom corners as these were the lowest points. There's a picture somewhere on here because I did it years ago.

Okay, I will keep searching, I figure it is drilled through the black part upwards from the corners behind the lower trim piece.

Also from searches it seems like it is not mold and junk, but the reflector material is gone.

By the way, I'm sorry to give you the bad news, but those black spots aren't gunk, it's where the silver coating has come off the black plastic surface of the reflector. Nothing much you can do except buy a better one or crack yours open and repaint or have it re-plated. You've got to be pretty adventurous to try that. Besides, if you're going to the trouble of opening it up, you might as well seal it back up properly and forget the holes. Only one person I know who did it (opened it up) and I'm not even sure what the outcome was. It sucks I know. Good ones are getting very hard to find. :(

Yup, I drilled the holes, and sloshed the existing water out. The reflector is pretty horrific looking, I wasn't sure if it was just sonic welded on the corners or if the "welds" all across the top also are for the housing and not just for the trim. I guess I will see what it looks like with the neon working and the dark spots, probably not good.

I was able to finally get the lock on the trunk to work. When I took off the center lamp, I noticed a bigger opening and I silicone sprayed it through there and not the key way, and it finally works. Where was that when I had the original peanut shaped remote and its 10 feet of range and poor design for the trunk and panic buttons. Now that I programmed the square fobs from my 2000 Grand Marquis to be used on the Mark VIII, I probably will never use the key to open the trunk again. Ever.

Thanks for the link and the info on the reflector!

My wife always wonders why when I take things off that shouldn't be taken off, I always clean and apply a couple coats of wax, like under the hood, in the headlight holes, under the headlight cover, etc.

No longer looks like this!
