Battery Life

All depends on battery condition, stop at the auto parts store and get a quick free load test on it if you are unsure.

I wouldn't worry about though, even if your battery dies most of those "park and fly's" do free jump starts.

Disconnecting it can't hurt. Again depends on the battery condition, reserve capacity, etc. What type of battery?

It must of been a sign... I went to the Po Boys monthly cruise-in this past Saturday, and won a door prize lol :cool-blue:

Well the new Motorcraft battery was dead as a door nail the other day.

The last time I started The Mark was to get the tire rubber off and wash it about a week after the shootout, so the second week of November.

I decided to hook up the battery doctor, and it took over 12 hours to show fully charged.

I left it hooked up and closed the hood to the safety catch and put the cover back on it.

Anything wrong with doing that?

This is my first time hooking up a battery maintainer for long periods of time and I do not want anything bad to happen.

So far, so good, for being hooked up over the weekend.

It'll be fine. If you still feel uncomfortable leaving it hooked up just check it once a day to see what it's activity is. It should have built in protections for overcharging ect.

If it's a trickle charger, you want to take it off once the battery is charged. If it's a float charger, you can leave it on.

Thanks for the info. I think I will be ok. Got this is from the product web site:

Model......Name+................................Charges and Maintains......................Maintains Batteries
20033......12 Volt 2 Amp Wall Mount 2.....Batteries from 5 to 200 amp hours.....Up to 400 amp hours

Automatic “switching technology” switches from full charge mode to float/maintenance mode.
Three color LED charge indicator.
Reverse polarity protection.
Suitable for safe charging and maintenance of 12 volt, wet-cell, lead-acid, fully sealed lead-acid and gel-cell batteries, plus AGM and deep cycle.
Ergonomic grip.
UL 1236 and cUL listed. WALL MOUNT CHARGERS INCLUDE:

Three color LED charge indicator.

On Work Release
Mike, I've suffered the same problems with my Whiner, and I have just gone to disconnecting the battery cable. I have a 1/4" drive socket and ratchet pre-positioned for this. I have a paranoia about unattended battery chargers. During the winters I only take the car out when the roads are clean of salt and dry, so car sits a lot for these times. Hope the new setup works out for you.

Safest approach is to disconnect the battery. It will still discharge even when disconnected but a few months is no problem. Believe it or not, but a battery will 'die" if left inactive too long. Battery maintainers are generally well proven to be safe, but they can fail in a state where they will over charge the battery and cause it to explode. It is rare, but it has happened. Ever see a car battery explode? we had one explode at work. Blew a hole in it and shot acid and a hydrogen fireball a few feet. Sounded like a gun. You should be fine. Thousands of people use battery maintainers every day.

A month and half is easily enough time to run the battery down below 12v.

car batteries discharge at or about 3% a day.
so 30 days in a month, thats 90%.
more than enough time for it to run dead.

i use harbor freights $20 battery charger/maintainer. its designed to be used continuously.
i have a short little cord that hangs out of the car and plug it in to the extension cord when i park it.
i need to pick up another one for the other car.
