Big Red Custom Longtubes

I'm not even going to get into details about what happened with the exhaust shop, but let's just say the job got done anyways. The quality is lacking and I was very angry with them and they knew it. I was finally able to get my car back $1400 later. This was from an original $2812 invoice. I told them they should greatly consider FIRING the guy who did the work on my car and they knew how I felt about their pricing. It was one step away from court. Anyhow, it's done. Custom fitted BBK longtube headers. I'm going to be heading to another exhaust shop here within the next month and seeing what they can do about making the driver's side header look better. The slash cut straight sections of pipe butted up to each other is complete horsecrap and even after all this, the damn steering shaft still has a slight rub up on the top of one of the primaries so my steering wheel "buzzes" with the exhaust when clocked left. *sigh* Remember the damn threads I started like this with Frosty. I just can't get a freakin' break. :mad-tilt: Oh well, it's done and she's loud as hell now. I made the mistake of taking the mufflers off the other day.

Pardon the language, but holy cow. I wish this was legal because at WOT it just sounds so freakin' righteous! In any case, whatever muffler choice I do decide to go with is going to be the saddest excuse of a muffler. I'm greatly considering SLP loudmouths.

Congratulations, Kirk! Good luck getting them tweaked to your liking. Any plans to see what gains the LT's have over your old set-up?

That's rough on the price, yikes! At lease with the slash cut sections on the header there is no reduction in pipe diameter, so in that sense it's not bad. I guess the alternative would be to provide a custom header kit with a selection of pre bent pipe. If they bent the pipe in their compression bender it wouldn't have been pretty.

Mike, eventually I will hit the dyno. I'd like to get some gauges in place first, and in all honesty, I am in no hurry right now because dropping the trans out now is impossible without dropping the subframe and taking the headers off again. BBK claims up to 22 rwhp gain with these headers. I'm not sure if that is before or after they are tuned for. Now can I say I feel a difference? I don't know. Kinda I guess. This would be something that is difficult to measure in terms of performance without hitting the track to find out. The Terminator Cobras claim about 3 or more solid tenths gained going to LTs. Not sure how that would compare here. I think the eventual stall converter is going to really make a massive difference on this car.

Sounds beast.

Do you have a BIG trans cooler fitted? That driver side header will definitely do a good job of heating up the fluid.

It has a smaller Hayden stacked plate cooler up front for the transmission. I intend on upgrading that also to the 40,000# gvw TruCool like I used on Frosty with the 3800 stall.

When I had my '93 base, I had a guy here in Vegas do a Cobra header fit for my car. He had to do some minor work to the driver side primaries to clear the steering shaft. He also fitted it with a Flaming River slip style steering knuckle. Coated the headers, deleted the 3rd cat, blocked the EGR connection, double X pipe to duals out the back with Magnaflows on both sides. That was out-the-door at just over $2000. Passed Emissions in AZ better than it did when new (go figure since it was without EGR connected) and bumped 30 horses higher. The only reason I did this was because at the time it was faiing emissions for both driver and passenger side cats being clogged. I priced the replacement parts from FLM to be over $4800 for both manifolds:eek-large: . So this was more logical to go half the price, get the sound I wanted, get extra ponies in return:thumbsup:

That was a good day!

Nice! Where is the car now?
