hey guys, jsut picked up my baby, and it looks liek the previuos owner contaminated the power steering fluid. its black and gritty. i want to drain out the fluid, purge the sytem, replace with fresh new fluid. jsut wondering, is there a bleeder? i looked at the resevoir, and don't see a thing. follower the line right down to the rack, and i may unbolt it there, but the line is quite rusty, and i am a little leary of removing it.

if u guys know of a better way of doing it, please post

thanks in advance

Paul

You don't want to mess with the lines, IMHO. What I did was flush the system. Siphon the old fluid out of the reservoir and replace with new fluid. Run it a while and repeat as necessary. I used Lucas Power Steering fluid with some kind of seal improving additive.

I disconnected one of the rubber lines that connects down where the cooler is and drained it that way, One side has pressure the other doesnt. Then I started the car, and let in spray the fluid out of the disconnected hose. Refill, and repeat 3-4 times.
