Glad this car is almost back together, maybe I can drive it next year at carlisle ;)

Verified the body/frame machine appointment today. I plan on taking the car down on Saturday. He said it may be ready Monday but worst case Tuesday. He also said we are still on the books for first week of August for the quarter panel and paint work. :)

Called Rodeheavers today and confirmed the schedule there. He has a bit more work in the shop now than he thought he would have but expected to be able to get started on the swap Tuesday/Wednesday after the body alignment. He is hoping to have it done by week after next, just in time for the body shop. Worse case is start-up, tweaking and dyno tuning would be after the body work is complete. :):)

I need to double check my list and gather up all the parts!

Can't wait! :D

Meanwhile after discussing the tune with LaSota, he confirmed the thoughts on leaving the knock sensors out and turning them off in the tune. He urged to be conservative in the timing without race gas or consider converting to E85. There was also some discussion on the rev limit due to the capability of the early model PCM and the 4R70W (built or not). But all things considered, no insurmountable issues are expected.

Sounds great, JP! :) Glad to hear there is progress. I have heard about the 1st gen rev limit before from Scott L. He never did figure that out. He was going to switch over to obd2 a couple years ago, but shelved it and recently moved from the ATL to a farm somewhere in Ohio. He was aiming to spin that SHM motor 8k on up once he got around that pcm problem. Good luck! :)

Yeah, I am leaning to just put in a new timing set, just because. At this point it would be cheap not to. I'm not sure about "confidence" since I just had the experience with the top end of the '96 that had a new timing set installed.

If Rodeheaver and Fox Lake think the cams could be advanced safely, then I am all for it. Otherwise we will just time them straight up and triple check the degree settings.

I know about the Cloyes hex-a-just system and their price is competitive. However, my inner self questions all the 'extra parts' staying together compared to the old fashioned way. I know from talking to a couple other engine builders that they were not all that fond of the idea.
I have read that somewhere that Triangle speed shop in TX sells a offset key, but not sure.
I have seen pics of stacked keys, not too fond of that idea.
If they decide to advance the cams and want a offset key, you can't find one send me a PM.
If I had numbers I am sure I could burn one on the EDM.

Glad to see this coming together for you.

Git-r-done so you can bracket race again.

It's driller's thriller. :cool::D
LOL... well the thrill is starting to build. I loaded the car on the trailer and took it down to the body/frame shop today. I expect the front end to be done Tuesday and it should be at Rodeheavers Wednesday with all the parts. :)

Now I'm off to finish the IMRCs so I can take them to work Monday morning and have them welded up so I can finish polishing them.

The throttle body is on it's way back from R.V. Morse Machine and the SFI flexplate from DirtyDog Performance is on the way. :D

when do we see pics?
Yes... it is time for pics. :D

My first prize that I was very pleased to see the results of...

a stock throttle body that was sent off and ported and polished.

The pics tell it the story best. :)

A fellow racer who owns a 10 second T-bird told me about the place he had his throttle body worked on - RV Morse Machine. The fellow I talked to there thought it was a "good" throttle body for being stock and there wasn't much he could do with it but he would perform his usual work. I asked for a 1000 HP but it was said I would likely gain 15% or so in flow. I think it's a very nice piece.

Every little bit helps. :D

I posted a while back about the IMRC deletes. I elected to make them myself since I am staying with the stock 1st Gen intake.

I just happened to have a spare pair in the parts shed.

First we needed to rid ourselves of them pesky IMRC secondary controls along with removing the "throttle plates" and shaft.

Then a trip up to the work shop and to borrow the use of the giant hot water parts washer.

While cleaner than before, it was obvious it was going to take a bit more work.

What was really going to prove difficult was smoothing all this casting flash...

Not to mention... this was far from what I wanted for the finished product.

I had the shaft holes welded up by a veteran welder at work and then proceeded to spend hours and hours sanding and polishing. But I think the final product should be worth a couple extra HP. :D

OCCUPY LoD :)
How much was the throttle body service JP? Never heard of that type of work.

Those IMRC's are DIRTY! I can't imagine SeaFoam would be able to clean them any better. Definitely shows how they can get stuck. That might be a good picture to post in some IMRC threads.

They have a website with pricing - there's a lot of numbers in my head at the moment but I think it was a tick over $200 with shipping.

Yeah, the IMRCs were dirty but they were not stuck and operated fine.

Looks like you're making good progress there JP. Might be late but did you consider Extrude Hone over near Pittsburgh on the manifold port polishing?

I didn't check out extrude honing for this project - yet. Later, if it looks like a Cobra intake with shortened runners is a better manifold choice, then I may since it should be more of a "mainstream" application.

Regardless, I'm sure there was quite a pickup in flow on these IMRC deletes with the polishing work. It should match well with the worked over manifold and Stage 3 ported heads I already have. When you include the throttle body work along with the Lightning 90mm MAF, I know there was nothing really left on the table with this particular intake setup. It will be one-of-a-kind for sure.
