I have just bought a 1989 Lincoln Continental Signature Series with a 3.8 v6 213000 miles on car 24000 on new motor anyway. The brake pedal is hard to push and the brakes hardly work. The person I bought it fron thinks it is the brake booster and anti-lock brake light is on to . What I need to know is if you think that is it and Where to get a picture or something of the booster. I have replace them on Fords and Chevy and they look difference they what this car has.So I am not sure what the booster looks like on this car. Thank you

Being unsure of what the brake system of an 89 looks like, I'll give you the generic answer: Usually the brake booster is a large round assembly between the firewall and the master cylinder. Check for good vacuum before you change out the booster.

Like Jerry, I'm not sure either. But if you don't recognize the vacuum booster I'm gonna say it has the same system as the Mark VII I have. It has a pump and accumulator, I forget the name of the ABS brake system. If that is so, the three suspects are:

# ABS pressure switch(failure due to contaminated brake fluid)(water)
# ABS relay
# Accumulator

Ok thanks but the booster I have has a round can to the left of the reservoir that says high pressure. And like most boosters this car does not have one that looks like a ford or chevy.
