Broken Key pad... Sorta

I've got an '01 Conti and the key pad sort of works all the other buttons [34][56][78][90]will respond when you touch them but the first button [12] doesn't work which presents as real problem since it happens to be needed in the factory code to unlock/lock the doors. Does anyone know what this generally runs to get repaired? or any other thoughts in general about the situation?

First of all, welcome!

I don't think that can just be fixed, they'll need to replace the keypad. And of course, then you'll have a different code.

I'd try to take it apart myself first. I would either figure out how to fix it, or break it worse.

This is a very common problem in Northern areas. The plastic of the buttons get brittle in extreme cold, minute cracks form, moisture enters, and one or more buttons corrode internally.

The keypad is a bit of a pain to replace. The door panel has to come off with the window rolled up, the rearward window track has to be removed, and then you can remove the exterior door handle and surround. The keypad is removed from this while it's out and on the bench, then the assembly is re-installed.

We usually charge 1.5 hours labour plus the price of the keypad.

The factory keycode is contained within the DDM's (Drivers Door Module) non-volatile memory. It can never be changed unless that module is replaced. The pad on your door is only a set of input buttons; the buttons on your computer keyboard hold no data or perform any calculations, do they?

BTW, are you aware you can change your entry code to any 5 digit number you want? (This is termed Secondary Code.)
Get your keypad fixed.
Enter the Factory Keycode.
Within 5 seconds, press the 1/2 button.
Within a further 5 seconds, enter any 5 digit code you choose. It CANNOT be sequential (12345) or repeat any number more than twice in a row (no 55555's).
Touch nothing further for a minimum of 10 sec.
Press 7/8 and 9/0 simultaneously to exit programming mode.
Done!
You now have two entry codes- the Factory one which is always there, and a second one that may be easier to remember. This new code is not "non-volatile", meaning it will be lost if the vehicle loses power, eg. the battery goes dead or is disconnected. This code will also activate memory postion 1, if the vehicle is equipped.

THIS METHOD WORKS ON ANY FORD PRODUCT WITH KEYLESS ENTRY.
