Buick Riviera vs Mark VIII

I was trying to decide between which to buy, I chose the Mark VIII for the price, a bit more power, and RWD. It also handles much better. That idiot would compare anything and say the Chevy is better. It appears to be a "Buick division" video. Notice in the drag race they had a base model and a chevy driver lol. I am skeptical about the back seat legroom as well. I bet the back seat of the mark has way more volume, I know me and my ex fit back there fine. *corny nudge nudge* And whenever 5 people need to go somewhere we always take my car as it is far mroe comfortable for 5 people than my friend's 4 and 2 doors. (Dodge Stratus, fbodys, mustangs, civics, sentras, etc.)

I agree that the video is a GM production - I think it was used to educate Buick salespeople on how to sell against the competition. My ex-wife has a 97 Mark as well as a Riviera and, having driven both, I would say they are very different cars. The Riv is very soft-riding, while (as we all know) the Mark is a stiffer-suspended, performance-feeling car.

That video started to make me angry 3 seconds into it. There is no way a rivera is better then a mark, who cares about leg room when its a 2 door car if I wanted people riding in the back I would have bought a sedan.

wow what a POS video... those two guys are real fruits.

That said the blue gen II they showed on the track is really pretty.

I agree. There was no contest for me, from the looks department especially. To me, the Riviera looks like a stomped catfish. There is NO WAY I am going to buy a car so ugly I can't stand to look at it.

Pathetic that you have to add a supercharger to the Buick to get it within 40HP of the Mark as well . . .

Now that it's 2007, not 1997, how many '97 Riviera's do you see on the road???? I don't remember seeing ANY!!! 'nuf said.

After doing a quick search on them... they sold about 1/2 as many of those uglies...

Most were non supercharged... and dogs... because they had a 3.8 N/A V6 with 200hp in a 3700lbs car!! It is just as big as the mark but handles much much worse and of course has FWD.

So did the better transmission etc.... they are still one of the ugliest cars to ever hit the road.

Do you want to corner or feel nothing. I would rather corner well have a V8 and RWD. Screw the buick

Yeah, that comparison is garbage. The slalom showed it all. The Buick was leaning bad. And the drag race to 30mph is a joke. The supercharged engine is at its best at low speeds. If they showed the rest of it, I'm sure the Mark would have blown the Buicks doors off.
Buicks are made for old people who want a very soft ride and easy steering. That's okay if that is what you want, but to compare it to a Mark is like apples and oranges.

First hand performance comparison:

I wound up racing one with my 96 base model a few years back. (The supercharged car) Up until about 95 he was hanging around my rear fender. By 110 I had him by a car. By 120 I was gone. Afterwards I talked to the guy and he hated the car and was about to get rid of it. This was back in 2002 and his car was a 98. The reason he was selling it was due to countless problems with the engine and he hated the soft ride of it.

Well it sounds like they were pretty comparable performance wise then... if he hung with you until 95...
