Bunch of savages in this town

A few months ago I had my Mark cracked open and violated.
Makes you not want to have anything worth stealing. There goes the double din Pioneer, etc.

Yes, the car was in my garage and I have a steal entry door with deadbolt.
I've added an alarm with motion sensors and will be adding video surveillance.

Speaking with neighbors and attending a police meeting, there's been alot of garage break-ins in my area. Up about 200% from last year.

Don't they know how difficult it is to get replacement Mark VIII parts? Bunch of savages in this town.

wow. Unbelievable. I'm sorry to see this.

I was considering a new head unit for my own Mark this spring... My garage is detached, and would not be a challenge to break into.

Yup, mine is detached also.
Its opened my eyes to how easily one can break into a garage. The person that broke in was determined considering some of my neighbors don't have gates and have regular wood doors.

Look into getting a steel entry door, a door devil, and a good quality deadbolt and lock set for starters. I also have a padlock on my overhead door latch.

Huh. I'd never heard of the door devil, but it makes sense. I've also heard of reversing a door, so kicks push it *against* the jam, instead of away from it. Since the interior of my garage is unfinished, that might not be a big job. Either way, definitely worth some research.

the big doors would be fairly secure, but the three windows (plexi) would still be pretty easy to knock out..

I like that idea, the door that opens out.

That's terrible! :(

Hope there is no damage to the dash is there?
The wood dash panel was broken in two and the heated seats panel also cracked.

On the outside, the broken glass, damaged the window channel and a ding in the quarter panel below the rear quarter glass.

I'm guessing that he tried to pop out the glass? Then got frustrated and started swinging something (crowbar, hammer?) to break the glass.

My neighbor has video surveillance and we saw the car. I'm not posting here just in case, but I am on the lookout for the car. Its not a common car.

Got it fixed already, insurance covered it minus deductible. And of course, the dash parts I had to find myself. The crook did leave a nice thumb print on the cracked dash part that the police were able to lift.

I did have the car locked, I'm not sure if the alarm went off.

Thieves and vandals are worthless trash.

I thought of installing security in my garage. This makes me think much harder about it now.

Glad you were covered and got the car fixed, but still... :(

Man, that sucks! I agree, had to be someone who knew what you had. Hope they can get the guy with that finger print!
Glad that you got it all taken car of though.

Definitely secure your garages if in doubt.
Some suggestions from the officer that came out were:
Motion sensor lights
Bars on windows
Locking steel screen door
Signs indicating alarm/video monitoring
Beware of dog signs

And look for a video on YouTube where a guy shows how to break in through the overhead door in seconds.

At this point I'm probably just going with a decent stereo not anything fancy. Just dealing with finding the dash parts and dealing with this sucks and would not want to go through it again. Loss of my time and use of car is easily more than what the theif surely got for the stuff he took.

I have motion flood lights out front and two sidelights out front that are dusk to dawn as well as a dusk to dawn security light on the side with the man door.

We use security cams at work which will record and send alerts via the web. They are surprisingly affordable. I am going to get something setup, probably outside and inside.

Lol!
Well it did allow the thief to steal.

Sorry to hear about this black97. I can't imagine how you feel. Everytime I hear stuff like this it makes me want too remove my dd/stereo and go with a very basic hu/sub/amp combo.

x2 on it being someone that you know. Could be a friend that made mention of what you had to one of his friends. Sadly, that's often the case.
