Car dies over bumps

I changed out my leaking fuel rails and everything was working fine but when I went for a test drive and the car ran great but when I ran over a bump, not a huge one but enough to skip a CD, and the car just dies. Put it in park and the thing started back up no problems. The I parked it for a minute while I ran into the office and the thing would not turn over. Plenty of battery power but it would not engage the starter. The after a few minutes it started back up and ran like a top. Driving home came another bump and it died again. WTF???

Sorry, pet peeve, but you mean how is it affected (not effected).

When you say "inertia switch", are you referring to the one in the trunk, the fuel cutoff? I would think that you'd have to manually reset that each time. It sounds to me like an electrical problem somewhere. Go back through everything you touched, and make sure it's all tight and all the connectors are pushed on firmly.

Dave,
Sorry to digress but please explain the affect/effect rule. - My peeve is the failure to use the 'ly' on adverbs. How about CNN; "REAL NEWS, REAL FAST." I turn the channel every time I hear that.

affect is a verb, effect is a noun (in normal usage). Smacking someone upside the head may affect their self esteem. A smashed car is the effect of being stupid behind the wheel.

I checked the Inertia switch and the button was not popped up and the fuel pressure was at 40 p.s.i. Then this morning I was to start the car, after it had run the night before, and the starter would not engage. THe only thing I did was played with the battary cable and it started right up. but there was power to the car I am stumped.

Part of the solution may be replacing the battery terminals:

As well as the battery terminals, check the grounds under the hood, especially the heavy guage ground wire to the block if the starter is not engaging. But since you played with the battery cable... I would suspect the terminals.
