Car possessed by gremlins

So there I was in 6 lanes of Tampa rush hour traffic at a red-light, all of a sudden the engine kicks up, revs like crazy, I’ve got to mash on the brake to keep from hitting a utility truck in front of me, and then the check trac control comes up on the console w/ a beep. The engine backed down and when the light changed I pulled over to check stuff out, all seemed well and has been for a couple days now…very weird…anyone w/ ANY thoughts? I turn the trac control off when I get in the car, it sucks to pull out into traffic and think you got it made then the tires break loose and you come to a crawl in the middle of US19…

The only thing that can open the throttle without your foot being involved is the cruise control module (electric motor driven). Maybe it took a dump? Could it be a possible electrical problem (like a bum block/chassis ground connection).

OK it did it again at a red light only this time the check trac control came on and then the car died, it didn't rev up, started back up alright, but I'm wondering if this is a sign of bad things to come? Is there any harm in driving w/ the trac control off?

My mechanic in Tampa has experiance with Mark VIII's and has all the code readers and data to diagnose problems. If you're interested call Gilletts Automotive at 813-839-7800. Tell them Jack sent you. I've also heard that Autoway Lincoln/Mercury in Clearwater is pretty good. Good luck!

more then likely its you iac (idle air control) its right behind the intake to the right it get stuck, what i use to do it step on the gas hard to unstick, you can either clean it or buy a new one buying a new one is better, i would post a pic of it so someone else post a pic of the iac
