First off let me say hi to all. Have not been on here in quite a while. Lost my Step daughter and girlfriend in a car accident.:frown: Not really over it yet but i felt good enough to take the Mark out of moth balls and do some much needed work to her. Changed pads all the way around on my 1997 lincoln Mark VIII. Had a great pedal before i have a bad one now. Brakes don't grab the car kinda glides to a stop. Pedal goes to the floor even after multiple bleedings. I didn't open any lines but bled anyway because the pedal was so poor. No leaks i really don't even smell that new brake pad smell like burning clutch as they seat themselves. I did something i never do i pushed the calipers back with out opening the bleeder screws. Pushing all that old fluid into the master cylinder. Peddle goes to the floor like a bad master cylinder but no brake light comes on. Seems like a pressure problem but at this point i am stumped. Any help much appreciated! Thanks in advance as always.
Regards Tony:thumbsup:

Sorry to hear of your loss. :(

Are you sure the brake warning light works? It sure sounds like a bad master cylinder.

When you pushed in the calipers, was the cap off the reservoir? Did fluid fill or overfill the reservoir?

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss Tony.

Yes, it does sound like a bad master cylinder, strange that it happened when you replaced the pads. Maybe a chunk of dirt or something got stuck in the seal when you were bleeding the system?

Yes the cap was on the reservoir and fluid went back in it slightly over filled it and some dripped out of the top.
When i first start the car the brake light goes on as it should for a few seconds.

Yes i thought it odd as well. But i was always taught to open the bleeder on each caliper rather than push the dirt into the master cylinder.
I guess i learned a hundred dollar or so lesson here.
You know my head is just not in the right place i guess.

Update i pressure bled the system a little better. But when i hold the pedal down it slowly sinks almost to the floor. I also noticed the front calipers are really tight. Gonna swap them out as well as the master cylinder. Someone told me there's a special way to bleed the system because of the ABS sensors????????? I was unable to find anything out about it and have never had an issue bleeding the normal way. Any suggestions.
Thanks again in advance.
regards
Tony

Blah, blah, blah... ABS.

I've never had any issues bleeding brakes on ABS equipped vehicles either. I suppose it could be possible, but I don't think so.

If the pedal is going down slowly, you're either leaking somewhere or the master cylinder is bypassing. You may want to sit and pump the brakes, holding the pedal down until it goes all the way down and repeat several times. Then check for reservoir and see if you have lost any brake fluid. If the reservoir is down, you have a leak to find. If the reservoir is not low on brake fluid (after several pumps with the brake pedal), you probably have a bad master cylinder.

Yes i thought that ABS thing was bull as well. Now that i heard you say it i know for sure!
Fluid is always full no matter how much i pump the pedal or hold it down.
I guess the Master Cylinder is at fault. Funny how it waited till i changed the pads to act up.
I guess like people one minute they are fine next minute they are gone.
Thanks for taking the time to help me out bro!
