Chicago area HRPT mini-meet?

Listen up!

I was just looking at the routes for the Hot Rod Power Tour and noticed the "official" route leaves Crown Point, Indiana and goes around metro-Chicago stopping at Lake Zurich for a lunch stop at Heidts Automotive on Thursday June 12th.

This is right in the neighborhood for several LOD members, a couple in particular whom I won't mention.

Anyways, hows 'bout we consider the 75 mile or so drive down to the Crown Point venue at the Lake County Fair on Wednesday to meet up?

Or we could just meet for a quick lunch in Lake Zurich on Thursday???

Any other possible suggestions welcome!

:rolleyes-green:

Sounds cool to me. At this time I'm unemployed again so it wouldn't be a problem but if something happens between now and then, things will obviously change.

We should probably establish a good meeting point in IA as well since myself and a few other will be starting from there.

CRAP! I forgot to check on the HRPT! I can do it, we'll have to tell Hubby and/or the kid. Hotel needed?

ETA: Looking at the route, I'd really hate to take expressways to IN and back, lol. You pass right by here, any way we can hook up (like just let us know when you're close and we'll line up waiting there are the Menards or gas station on Rand...and then follow or "join") and then go on to the next stop or 2? I can't figure this out, but I see what hotel to stay at on Friday (Mrs. Driller will undoubtedly like that), and I haven't been up to the Dells in forever....

ETA2: I booked 2 legs of the HRPT, haven't recieved confirmation of hotel in Iowa yet, but do have confirmation from the Dells, and the 2 legs. Sent e-mail asking if we can hook up for the 1/2 leg to IA, and what the deal is with the hotel there.

So the plan is to meet along the route before Heidts in Lake Zurich?

We could do lunch just about anywhere, it wouldn't need to be the Heidt's stop though there would likely be 100's of cool cars stopping by.

Then we could caravan into Iowa and meet up with the MN gang and roll into the venue together. :) Otherwise we will likely not be parked together.

Hotels... Our reservations for Iowa are actually across the river in Moline at the Radisson at John Deere Commons on Thursday the 12th.

We have reservations at the Wilderness Resort at the Wisconsin Dells stop on the Friday the 13th. Don't laugh, I wasn't paying $300 plus to stay at the "resort". But the Widerness resort was the next highest priced accommodations.

Whoa, I just looked at what I typed. Is it just me or does "Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin on Friday the 13th" sound a bit eerie?!

Or we just meet at Heidts, I can register there apparently, but call as you get close or have an idea of time. Then I'm in. I'm at the casino the one day and some Flamingo something or other in the Dells. I don't know if they even showed a price for it.

So what comes after that? You heading back through this way? For me I guess it'll depend on the BLackhawk's schedule :) The House on the Rock used to be a popular stop on the way back, although I've never been there.

And the Dells are eerie anyway being our age ;) Although they do have fun stuff I can't do anymore. It's a popular place for people from here to go on vaca with their kids for a long weekend.

ETA: OMG! The Flamingo is rated #68 out of about 76 hotels! I'm gonna check on changing that.

Davenport at 11 is early. We'll be lucky to be out of the lunch stop by then. I'll have to look at the route and guess an ETA.

Driving on the tour really is a challenge when it comes to estimating arrivals. There's places you can make good time, others not so much.

Assuming I'm still free, this could work out very well for me. My mom and stepdad live in Davenport, so... PARTY AT MOM'S! Just kidding.

If, by some miracle, I get Noah's Mark running, I could be up for about anything after Chicago. Not so keen on the Subaru, but either way I'm in for Lake Zurich and Iowa. Probably not Indiana though.

It'd be good to have Noah's Mark join the crowd! ;)

I understand not wanting to drive down to IN and double back the next day.

We'll plan a meeting time/place for Lake Zurich and caravan on to Iowa! :D
