Anybody know what to do about body moulding that the chrome is all worn off of? Is there any way to replace just the chrome insert, or do you have to replace the whole thing? Not to mention having it repainted... Thanks in advance!

I have used the chrome molding 5/8 th's from sportwing.com and it is a great fit-also it beats the chrome tape in my opinion since this has a warranty on the finish and such-also it comes in a multitude of colors so you can do some different effects-if you want I offered this before and will extend the same to you-I can send you a sample of it just send me a self adressed stamped envelope if interested to

Thanks Jim! I see on the website a couple of different styles of 5/8" mouldings. Which one did you use? Did it match the original moulding well, or did you have to replace everything? Seems like you have to remove the old chrome strip. Does that just peel right out?

Anyway, it comes on such a large roll, I'm sure you have some left...how about a sample about 12 feet long...ha ha!!

Seriously, if you do have some left and you want to sell it let me know. Thanks again.

You will have to totally remove the old molding-it's a b*%#h and is tetious because it's not the old molding thats the hard part it's the old stuck on glue gunk that takes awhile! I used a flat head sloted screw driver to basically just scrap it out. You want the area that the new stripping is going to go to basically be perfectly clean. After all the gunk is out get a cleaner-I used rubbing alcohol to really make sure it clean. Then starting at one end slide the stripping into the slot and start laying it into the molding; you are going to want to have a hard object to help push it in firmly and make sure it gets a good hold(I used the end of a putty knife and used a rag when I pushed the stripping in with the end of this so I wouldnt damage it. Now the only trouble spot is the front bumper, because of the angle it is on the stripping after awhile may come loose-so I recommend when putting it in getting alittle epoxy and putting a few dabs here and there as you are putting the stripping in to make sure it is basically impossible to get out> This whole process is failry easy and the stripping goes in really fast-whole process should take around 2 hours or so depending on how fast the old stripping comes out. Unfortunately I have to keep my leftover roll as I will be getting my front bumper repainted and already had my side panel repainted and need to apply new stuff--good luck hope it helps!!

Wow, Jim, sounds like a Saturday of F-U-N!! Thanks for the detailed advice, though. Do you know which stock number you bought, or should I just send you an envelope for a sample. I take your word for the quality, so I'll order it if you tell me what the number is.

Jon

PS: I didn't have any moulding for the front bumper, but I already ordered the factory strip!

It's not the original bumper. The previous owner smacked-up the nose and when it was repaired they didn't replace the chrome inserts.

It's a '94 base model
