Clunking Noise in the rear

This is my black 94.

I replaced the rear shocks and mounts, the clunk was still there when I went over tracks or bumps. I checked all the rear mounts, they are all nice and tight.

As it turns out, it was just the trunk lid torsion bars bouncing on the inside package tray area. I split a couple pieces of old rubber hose and put them on the bars where they were touching. No more clunking.:D

what are the trunk lid torsion bars?
commonly referred to as "trunk lid springs"...lateral torsion bars that hold trunk lid UP, help it pop open, and easily let you close it.
I've seen broken ones through the years...they are "torsional rods" that "bind" when you close the lid so it easily opens and stays up.

Bill made a nice find as they are not easy to see unless you're quite limber and are used to crawling in and out of the trunk.
