It is the Secondary Air Injection system which pumps fresh air into the exhaust to assist the cats upon startup for a few seconds. It should lead to the diverter valve mounted in front of the crank pulley. The pump is behind the drivers side fender. What is that AIR tube for? I see where it goes. The cobra manifolds do not have that port. Should I just trace it back and plug it?
And that caused a CEL?I guess plugging it is a lot different than the fuse popping, like it did on mine then.....
You are correct. The PCM monitors the solenoid and relay for activation. What I was trying to say there is no feedback from the AIR system functionality. If the solenoid and relay works, the PCM is no wiser to the actual performance of the system. It must in my '97 Gen II..... and the code thrown was the air pump. In fact, aren't you the person that told me what it was????
How is the Gen2 different? You can remove all the stuff associated with it, and you HAVE to switch it off in the tune (on a 2nd gen car) in order to avoid not only a CEL, but also poor performance (it shows up few miles down the road).
