cobra headers

I'd be pretty sure the stock manifolds would give the best fit as far as the steering shaft is concerned.

Now if you were to go with the shorty headers or even the mid-length Kooks headers, then I'd say the steering shaft may need to be modified.

steering shaft fitment

Just to be sure we are talkin about the same thing. The headers are the stodk cobra manifolds. These will clear without a steering shaft mod ? I had this motor sittin in a 89 t-bird and the steering shaft would not work, now it is possible that there are changes from an 89 to a 94 but im not sure. Not tryin to argue just tryin to get my ducks in a row before i jump into this. Thanks for all the help.

Heres a link to the posting for mark manifolds. You can see the headers in this pic.

No, I didn't say that. I said they would have the 'best fit' when compared to other choices. Best fit being defined as least interference.

Since the MN12 and FN10 are so close, I would say it would likely require steering shaft modifications to clear the manifolds. Using stock Cobra manifolds on my '96 required steering shaft mods. Nothing drastic or difficult, just a u-joint, coupler and section of shafting.

thanks

Got it. Thanks for the help i just wanted to be sure of what we were takin about. I think at this time it would be a waste to put on shorty headers for minimal gain. Im tryin to just use stock until i can get the kooks headers. I may have to sell one of my kids and remortgage the house but i will get them.:fart

Thanks

DLF can you fab the steering parts i need? please let me know thanks ken
Ken,

I probably could, working from what others have done, but I'm sorry, I won't.

I have a strict policy that I only make recommendations (or parts) based upon things that I have done personally, or at least have seen for myself. I don't know for certain that the mod as outlined by others will work with the FRPP shorty headers.

I hope you understand my reasoning.

Doug,
I think the shaft mod you sel wil work. Do you have any ready to ship?
Thanks. Ken
Yes, I do have a kit in stock, ready to ship.

However, I think that you'll also (at least) need the splined shaft and coupler to make the shorty headers fit. Along with shortening the stock shaft.

I found a complete set of header gaskets nearby for $40 obo. Thats a bit less than any other site I've found. If anyone is interested, i'll send you the link.

Mad1stGen, Can you tell me how long the silver DD cut down shaft needs to be? And where you placed the hole/dimple? Also how long the black outter shaft has to be? And does the black plastic sleeve stay when its ready to install. I have probably 90% of the parts gathered up to do this swap. Just some small details that I am trying to hammer out first. Thanks

Due to high variances between the cars, and tight clearances at manifold to steering shaft it's nearly impossible. This is one of these mods that needs to be done on the car it's being installed on, as I guarantee it won't fit the same on two cars. I've done several of these over the years, and while the parts used are usually the same, the outcome is different every time. So making anything ahead of time without test fitting is a bad idea in my opinion. Plus nothing great ever happened from following other's footsteps ;) YMMV

I agree. I was just trying to get a roundabout idea. Car isn't torn down yet so I will see once I get in it I suppose. Soon as I get my midsection of pipe from mandrel exhaust stystems and get some manifold flange studs its on! (If my trans is fixed first) Photos will be taken for others :)

Thank you for your reply Mad1stGen

headers

It is, but it's been modified with high flow spun cats.

Here are some pics and rough measurements of a stock Bassani X-Pipe. They won't fit Mustangs with 4R70W transmissions, so they probably won't fit on a Mark VIII either. ;)

However, if one were to install a TR-3650 or TR-6060, who knows?
I wish I lived closer, I would have you work you're magic and fab me a xpipe.
but maybe I can mail you the car. Jk:D
