Cobra Rims?

Was considering buying the Cobra rims if I end up purchasing a MarkVIII that doesn't have premium wheels.

What is considered the best quality and size for the mark VIII ? I would assume 18" would be the largest size I would want to use.

I think 18x9 are the sweet spot. Better selection of tires that are close/identical to OEM, get a decently wide tire in the rear, and still have some sidewall.

I got 17x9 bullitts back when 18 inch tires were very expensive (2004ish), and wish I would have gone with a 18 inch wheel. If I could do it all again, I would find a 17x8 wheel or a 18x9 wheel. I know...I have had 12 years, and 3 cars to do it over, but considering I paid more for the wheels and tires originally than I did for my 97 Mark VIII, I find it hard to justify another large outlay of cash without getting a newer car and less headache.

I agree on 18x9's. More options and will give you more room for brake options. looks good also. Others have put wider wheels but you will have to roll the fenders. Also think about what you want to do with brakes before buying wheels. not all aftermarket brake options will fit under all wheels. OEM wheels tend to have the better quality and coatings but they are expensive.

Thanks for the info fellas! Any chance you have a suggestion on what brand I should look into getting. OEM still the best quality? I will have some time to think on it most likely once I buy the car to burn off the tires that come with it :)

Yes I do. Only rain no snow or hail. I might drive the truck most of the time in the winter, but I do plan on driving the Mark VIII some of the time.

I just noticed you are in CA so there is probably no road salt. Your chrome will last a long time. Keep in mind that the OEm wheels will have OEm levels of engineering, testing, and quality controls so they will tend to be better. But honestly, I have never heard of anyone complaining about the quality of aftermarket wheels. The big complaints usually are about chrome pitting early even when wheels are not used in the winter. It seems if your wheels are simply in the same state they will rust and peel.

OEM for MK VIII"S were 16". I believe good year built a tire just for the MK VIII"S, no longer made. If your going to 18", there is no OEM. Just get good stuff, and you'll be happy.
