when my son gets his first car, he's looking for a 2000-2005 mustang gt.
with adding these things, how much estimated hp could he possibly get

k&n cold air intake
55mm throttlebody
full catback exhaust
longtube headers
underdrive pulleys
3.73 gears

i guessed at around 40-80 ?

Pretty common mods. From what I've seen locally, closer to 40 than 80. The headers will be wanting more intake and the CAI and TB is not really the bottleneck.

I would be surprised is he even gets 40 from those mods. You can't typically add up the individual HP ratings to a total HP.

I will agree, i say more 20 to 30 with a dyno tune with the mods he can get to 40 RWHP and gears don't add power to the engine.

Max might be onto something. I started out with a 1982 Buick Skylark.. :(
The car insurance companies will take notice as well, the rates will be high. Back in early 90s when i had my Buick turbo T i had to drop out of college after i got a speeding ticket because my car insurance was like 4k a year. it think in 4 years i paid more for insurance then i did the car. And i was in my 20s

Also gonna add that the 2005 is the new body style and you're gonna pay a lot more then a 2000-2004 GT.

Haha Max! How's he gonna learn? I learned by driving my Dad's 240sx...look at me now. And not one accident caused by oversteer.

240sx= 2.4 liter nissan truck motor with 140hp
vs
4.6 Liter V8 with a live axle and possibly over 300hp and 0 stability control.

He needs to be in a front wheel drive death trap at first. Or the lowest power RWD car money can buy... say a 318i Bmw and may have a couple of electronic nannies.

like so (on the older side) there are newer models pending budget.

First to hate... way too much power for a first car.
You guys said that when we got the Kid his 2000 GT. No accidents, only 1 speeding ticket and I think we got it when he was 18? Depends on the kid and whether or not they can respect the car, IMO. I always feel safe with him driving.

I can't recall the mods he's done to it, so I have no idea on HP.

But he knows to race at the track, and ok, for his first year of driving he either drove my Mark or his (my old) 6 cyl grand am. It wasn't til the pontiac gave it up that we got him the stang, and we were actually looking for something like a crown vic, but this ended up as our best and cheapest option. Plus at the time it was fun for Hubby or I to take it out for a spin now and then.

He probably shouldn't drive a modified Mark VIII then either cause I ate an 03 GT for breakfast in my grocery-getter. I had him before the crosswalk on the other side of the intersection. :D
