looking for the trans pan from a 96+ 4r70w trans. i believe all 4r pans are the same, but the 96+ pan added the dimple.

anyone got one?

here what the dimpled pan looks like (probably without the drain plug).

I'm pretty sure they're still available from the dealer for about $30. Part # 6L3Z7A194A.

What's the appeal of the dimple?

Are you referring tot he dimple in the upper corner? That is simply for locating the ring magnet. I would think the drain plug is a more desirable feature.

the earlier pans are flat.

the dimple they added keeps the trans from neutraling out under hard cornering.

i was gonna change the trans fluid, and decided this would be a good time to swap the pan.

as far as i know, pans with a drain plug are somewhat rare, without going to an expensive, cast aluminium pan.
that picture was off a uhaul van i believe.

I see what you are referring to. You definitely want a pan with that feature. I think you can still buy the one with the drain plug from ford but you need to tell them the part number. The part counter person will likely not know what you are talking about. You are correct, it was for high service duty vehicles.

For what it's worth, that pan is actually made for Ford E250 vans, but it's supposed to be a direct replacement for our pan, which is discontinued.

Make sure you get the correct filter after you install the dimpled fan. The parts guy will have to spend an extra 30 seconds looking through the options. The updated filter has an intake tube that fits in that dimple to ensure that it is always submerged in fluid.
