Dome lights stay on B1566

My dome lights will not go off. On the scan tool it says the pass. door is ajar. New switch installed and no change. A KOEO self test comes back to a B1566 short top ground code. I don't see any bad wires yet. Anyone have any ideas on where to look for this? It is a 2002 model.

Greetings, and welcome. What year is your car? I've seen a similar problem before when the module that controls the keyless entry fails. Since the dome light circuit runs through that device, that could very well be what you are dealing with here.

I'm thinking that the module I am suspicious of here is located within the driver's door, but I've never had mine apart to confirm this.

Do the other remote functions work as expected? lock/unlock, trunk, etc?

I just realized that I may be over analyzing this, also. Let's back up a bit. The "door ajar" could be any one of the four doors, I suppose. Give all four door latches a good spray with WD-40, then open and close them a few times.

Spray each latch like this:

X2 on the WD40. This is a very common FORD problem! Spray well...open and close doors and if it didn't solve the problem, spray again and wait until morning and it should have fixed itself.

Tried wd40, when that didnt work I replaced the switch. On the scan tool data it still says my pass. door is ajar.

Reset the computer...pull both the ground AND the Positive off the battery . Short the two leads together then reattach them (after you've unshorted them of course) and see what gives then.
