So now that its really cold my door wont close. Most of the lubricants i try just free and make it stick. Any recommendations?

If you have any, try silicone spray first. That is assuming you're afraid of gumming up the works with WD-40.

I've used both products on that problem with great success, so don't be too afraid of the latter.

Do be aware that with the silicone spray, it seems to take a few minutes to "kick in." It's most certainly the result of some kind of Chemistry that I don't understand, but at first you'll think. "huh, that's useless." then a couple hours later, it'll be smooth like butter, and you won't be able to walk through the kitchen without slipping due to the overspray..

It was -8 here in Minnesota this morning, and I've used the silicone on the lock cylinders of the front door of my house, and service door to my garage. (about 2 weeks ago) They both work better than ever.

So although I can't give that a resounding "no," I'm confident enough that I'd spray that stuff on just about anything at this point.

Traditionally, drenching the latch mechanism in wd-40 is the tried and true technique for fixing the "door ajar" sensor problem, so if that's the product you have on-hand, I'd give it a go.

I can't figure out if the door is from his car, or from the house. I switched from wd to sea foam spray. The cars usually freeze shut, hence the broken door handles. When it gets cold, houses move, and things don't work as they did. 2 1/2" screws in the hindges of the house door might help

Maybe less lube and some repair I never saw a car door not close due to cold weather.

Ive looked at it. I can use force to open it but as soon as i let go it sticks WD freezes when i put it on, ill try the silicone though above 32 it works just fine. Not sure what would keep it from closing otherwise... this is on the car

Another thing that happened is my windshield washer button flew out and i lost the spring... please dont tell me this is a $300 part

The next time it happens, try pushing the power lock button to unlock while pulling up on the manual lock. If it latches then, it might be a sticking door lock actuator. I've had to replace one for that before.

Bingo!

I'd replace the door lock actuator, or at least disconnect it for now so it doesn't keep the latch from latching.

PB Blaster
wont freeze
works on pretty much ever hinge, latch, catch, trigger, actuator, valve, solenoid, switch and trigger I've ever used it on. Wont freeze, and smells better than the like.
But...if you want to ever lubricate an electrical switch, GM makes their own "electrical lubricant" spray...many GM dealers have it in inventory, but do not have it "for sale" as it is provided through their factory vendor for "service department" use....they'll sell you a can.

When the GMC dealer Brenda worked for was switched over to Hyundai, they had to "toss" a lot of factory "service" parts...she brought home cases of the stuff they were going to throw away...I took it to work and used it on everything....we actually ran out...the stuff was like "magic spray"...It is out there.

3 or 4 times mine have "gotten stuck open" off and on since I got the car 7 years ago. Always in the cold. Usually I can pop the latch in the door back into place with a screw driver then spray with the nearest available PB Blaster, Liquid Wrench, maybe WD-40 and it works for a long time.

Here we seldom see below zero F so maybe that is why I can use over the counter lubes.
