Drone Selfie

Thats cool. I only have one drone with a camera, and it isn't much of an outdoor flier. I have a bunch of little seriously toy grade drones I am attempting to get good enough at that I can step up to a racer style FPV drone. I need to find a good place to fly, as the 2 lost drones to date tell me my neighborhood isn't great with all the fenced yards.

What are the specs on the Drone? What model, style, cool features does it have?

I want to build a small (90-130mm) carbon fiber brushed drone, then a little bit larger (130-180mm) racer style drone, then a 250mm racer. As much to build them as to fly them. I like playing around with electronics that affects mechanical things you can see.

I am working on my skills with ~10 dollar ones, trying to get it so I don't have to fly with the head always pointed in one direction.

Yes, that is a quarter with the one with the camera. As soon as I put in the micro SD card it didn't have enough lift to go very high, so I had to put on the 3 arm props.

Half of my toy drone collection.

It was too windy, then too hot (who wants to be staring up into the sky at 115 degrees), been nice last few days so working on the muscle memory and trying to get figure 8s back down.

I have turned one of the H8 Minis into a test bed, there are firmwares out there you can flash to them that allow you to fly in acro mode, so it doesn't return to level, doesn't have the limits to tilt, etc.

And...since the camera points straight out, 90 degrees and isn't movable, I can only take selfies at ground level (across the street, half way up the neighbors yard, cigarette butt for comic relief):

now with it hovering in the same spot, I can't time tipping the front down and taking a picture so they are of the horizon:

I have another quadcopter with a camera on its way, and some alternate lenses and CMOSes to try out. Another 15 dollar toy one, eventually I will either figure out I can't fly them and stop, or get real.

At least you get a nice view of those mountains...

I also admire just how much "setup" must have gone into that particular selfie...

Yes, I've got a few drones too, starting out with the tiny nano drones. My new one is the Blade Chroma, I like it because it has GPS and you don't have to fight the wind as much.:)

Here's my collection.:)

The big one is the new drone, here's a shot from it, of camping at my brother's trailer.

The pictures are much better in full resolution.

Just got my Hubsan X4 H107C. $15.00, second most amount I have spend on a drone, but I have started collecting parts for a few custom builds, and have modified some cheapo ones.
Not sure why they ship this with the narrow angle lens, I have already swapped it for a 140 degree one (flew it for 3 minutes, then tore it apart!).
This is with the narrow lens:
HI

it doesn't fly very well, I need to tune it up a little, it rotates on its own (yaw), and the props fall off when I punch it, but it is a hefty bugger and should have lots of flying time. You have to start the video before taking off, no channel on the transmitter to start video or take pictures. It is a few years old, slightly updated from a .3 mp to a 2 mp camera. Gonna add a video transmitter for FPV using the built in camera (with the better 140 degree lens).

Should have waited to cut off the prop guards, but it it a totally different flier minus the weight, with the stubby rounded end props, and the antenna sticking out (4x the distance).

I still suck at flying, and might just give it up until it is cool enough to spend enough time at it to get it down.

Nice.

I had to give up on the lower cost drones, they seemed to get weak after a while to where they won't lift up into the air anymore.

Here's a shot of my brother in law washing his sail.:)

That is very cool! Nice area, I am jealous.

I would rather wreck some 10 dollar drones than a 400-500-1000 dollar one until I feel I can handle it. The toy ones don't have the same functionality like GPS, altitude hold, waypoints, etc, but if I can't point it in any direction and be able to fly it, I will wait.

Looks like I could stand to dial in the lens a little better, and find the video processing program I found that helps straighten out wide lens distortion.

I decided to break the law and at 5 am fly it in the park. They don't bust pet owners off leashes, so I should be fine.

Nice shots!

The GPS is nice, you don't have to fight the wind all the time.

This one has a follow me mode, I haven't tried it yet, I need to find an area without so many trees.:)
