Emmissions problems P1409 - Need help

Well, the IMRC code finally came back. Guess I will be taking it apart over the next week. Give me a reason to install the nice cross over tube. Hopefully the original one is not too hard to remove.

Can someone tell me which side would be B2 that is mentioned in the DTC code? I would just look it up but my service disk will not work on my new computer.

Well, I took of the cowl and checked the IMRC's. They move very freely. Maybe it was the seafoam. Maybe not. Have no idea since I did not check them first. Still curious which side is B2. any other thoughts on what it could be? Can I verify they are working by having someone rev the engine?

Thanks. I eventually figured it out searching some threads. I verified the IMRC's function as they should by reving the engine. They easily actuate and go back to position. I cannot see the IMRC sticking in the open position considering the strength of the spring but maybe I am wrong. I will try another round of sea foam. If that does not work then I will clean them up the hard way.

The car finally passed emissions. The confusing part is up to the point I got there I was still pulling a P1000 code using the SCT tuner. I checked for the code after it passed and there was no P1000. The test report also showed all the monitors were ready. Anyone know if these emissions test systems would clear the codes? Are there different types of codes? I remember reading that older codes can be "stored" and not necessarily a current code.

They will stick pop a code and then not stick, mine does this I clear the code then it will stick again over time and pop up another DTC.
Sorry it needs to come apart.

Came across your thread Beerdog, my Mark just failed emissions and I've been reading all about tuned Fords having this problem. I had the Mark tuned about 12 years ago, I guess I have to find a place to set it back to stock. I got lucky in 2013 that i took the test before Illinois updated their software.

Read my other threads. It was even a worse experience with my Red 98. It is not that you tune it, but rather which emissions systems were turned off. You may be able to pass by simply reloading the stock tune and driving around a bit to clear the monitors.

be aware that evap only runs under certain ambient temps and only during the first 30 minutes of turning on the car. And evap will only run with a long break between tests, like 8 hrs. EVAP sucks!

Yeah had to deal with that when I got my Jeep smogged... fortunately in CA not all monitors have to be active, so once my code scanner said all but two were good to go, I booked it over.

In Illinois there is no testing on pre-ODBII cars. Some years can have 2 monitors not ready. Newer years can only have 1 not ready. Certain monitors like rear O2's and EVAP must be ready regardless of year.
