Engine noise

Before you dive into it real deep, take the belt off, and start it, That kinda sounds like a bearing on an idler pully

another thing you might try to pinpoint the noise.

you can use a hardwood stick (like a hammer handle or a piece broomstick) like a stethoscope put your ear to one end , and the other to the engine component in question (be careful to stay clear of moving parts)..... if it is a valve , i'll bet that would find it

I do have a stethoscope that I was poking around with; it's definitely coming from under the driver’s side valve cover. Funny thing is it doesn’t always make the noise.

I recently added a bottle of JB oil additive in there to see if I can free any stuck lifters. Seems like when I take it on to the free way and give her hell the noise goes away. I'll see if I can drive her some more to see if I can get anything else.

I also still have a bad idle which likes to shut down the acceleration at 50MPH, not letting me accelerate for 5 sec and then picks up again till I hit 60MPH. It will stay there for 5 sec and then the car will hit 70MPH. The PCM told me I have a misfire I cylinder, so I replaced the coil with a spare one I have and a new plug (old plug had allot of oil on it), still no change.

compression test?

how does one even accomplish a compression test with those buried spark plugs. must need some kind of funky custom rig
