5w30 flows better cold, and with overhead cams, it needs to get oil up there quickly. I usually run 5w20 year around, I have started going to 5w30 in my 300,000 mile Grand Marquis, and probably will next summer in my Mark VIII. With as noisy as my cars are with the Fram orange can of death, no way I don't spend that extra 1 dollar and get Motorcraft FL-820S with the much better end cap and ADBV. I used the run 5w20 Motorcraft synthetic blend, but generally use Mobil1 full synthetic. Lots of 4.6 owners swear by Pennzoil Platinum, but I had a very high consumption rate with it.
