Engine rattle - other than mentioned in FAQ

Hey guys
I've got a '97 with 106k miles that I bought on Ebay last month. Clean as a whistle and runs like a top. But I've noticed a slight rattle in the engine when it's cold/warm. It stays until the engine reaches normal operating temperature, so it doesn't sound like the oil leakdown problem. I can just barely hear it, but it's driving me crazy. Any of you know what that might be?
I'm also getting the Low Engine Coolant message I've seen mentioned here. The coolant level is fine, but I spotted a tiny pinhole leak from somewhere behind all those splashgaurds around the radiator. That'll have to wait till the weather warms up before I start digging around for the leak.

You guys are talking about the leakdown rattle, right?
I changed the oil last week and put in Mobil 1.
I wouldn't be too worried about it if it would go away after oil pressure comes up, but it stays until temp comes all the way up.
I'm not familiar with the 4.6 at all. Maybe something in the valve train that's a wee bit loose or out of spec and the metal has to expand before it's in spec? I keep wanting to think it's a lifter(s) that's not pumping up right, but... DUH!

How long are the timing chains (it's got chains, right?) supposed to last before they need R/R? Not that I think it's related, just curious.

It could be timing chain noise as well, BG makes a machine to flush the engine I have it here it really works try and see if some one in your area has that, what happens is sludge can build up in the hydrolic tentioners this can cause chain noise again this is very difficlt to T/S over the internet.

Hmmm. I've got a buddy that is service manager at the chevy house and another buddy that's lead tech at the caddy dealership. I'll ask them about the flushy dilly.
I remember using a can engine flush (diesel or kerosene) to free up lifters on my old Chevy van in high school. Pour it in the crank case and run it for 10 minutes, then change the oil. Same kind of thing?

I caught up with Tony from the Chevy house at one the bars the other night. He said no problem on the flushy dilly, it'll cost me the materials and a six pack...
He suggested I first try running a quart of Marvel Mistery Oil in the crank case for 500 miles then change the oil, that usually takes care of it.
He also said Klaus is almost done building the catapult for our lake parties this summer. It'll shoot a 200lb idiot/drunk 150 feet into the lake. Schweeeet! He's going first....

If it's start up rattle then it is bleed down for sure.

The best thing to do is Lucas engine oil treatment with a Purolator Pure 1 ANTI-DRAINBACK oil filter (the best there is IMHO)

This filter will cure 98% of this problem, we have been using these for almost 7 years now with nothing but great results.

If I'm not mistaken, the Mobil 1 brand filter uses the Purolator design with a synthetic element. I used them on a 89 Mustang I used to own, and I noticed an immediate improvement with oil pressure when I changed the filter.
