Epa trying to kill racing

Signed the petition. I think we need to go back to the constitutional way of law-making. "Only congress shall make law".

I urge everyone to sign the petition.

This is a huge over-reach by the EPA and would decimate the aftermarket industry, not to mention the racing community.

Signed, doubt this will get much traction but it doesn't hurt to be proactive. I'm all for a cleaner future, but going after the automotive enthusiast won't make a dent. There are bigger things that need attention first.

I wish SAN was as big and powerful as the NRA.

Done. Even if they do it there are some laws now like removing cats etc that they have a hard time enforcing anyway for people who race their cars.

A well-tuned 4bbl carb will run better/cleaner than a 1992 Toyota Tercel with 210k miles on it.
EPA going after "modifying production cars and converting them in to race cars" is as bass-akwards as libtard thinking can get.

So, a 1969 Camaro with a 502 crate motor running a fuel-injection set up once or twice a month is harder on the environment than a STOCK 350 4bbl worn out engine that might be driven daily? I've seen bumper sticker-clad Volvos that emit more emissions than a well-tuned muscle car/race car.
Besides, trying to monitor the "race cars" out there is as feeble as trying to get all gun users to register their firearms or all moonshine makers reporting their machinery to the ATF.
It just TAINT goin-a happin!

I think many folks forgot that the carbon footprint to build 1 Toyota Prius is greater than that of a 1992 GMC 454 Suburban idling for 2 years.

Good news is: the petition has reached its 100k signature goal.

the relatively small number of "race cars" that see every-other-weekend duty for SCCA or something, absolutely pales in comparison to the number of cars on the road every day of the week.
they targeted a group that won't go down easily, and wouldn't make a noticeable difference even if they did.

This is a lot of hoopla over NOTHING! Everyone panicked but nobody thought to check what this was all about. It turns out they were just clarifying some rules ALREADY on the books for years.

Nobody bothered to check what it really meant. A meeting between EPA and SEMA the other day made it clear it was only a clarification to an already existing rule. This is really a non story that has sprouted a life all it's own.

At the risk of turning this into a political thread, I'm all to familiar with the "rule making" process of government agencies.

"Clarifications" is simply a way for an agency to interpret a law as they see fit, circumventing the legislative and judicial process. Their 'rules' become twisted mutations of the 'law' which they then use at their discretion. The entire 'rule making' process is a farce. They 'publish' new rules, go through a public 'comment period' after which the rule in effect becomes 'law', often without any change despite input or opposition from citizens, industry groups and... petitions.

To say it is a lot of hoopla over nothing is burying your head in the sand.

LOL I was thinking just that and almost ready to give the ROC a reread however the question is far to relevant not to address it.

Ether way, hold their feet to the fire cuz on both sides of our boarder our leadership seems to be all about their own gain and at who's expense they don't really care.
I've heard it said racing din't begin with the first car, it began when the second one rolled into the scene. It's a part of our heritage.
