Factory HID ballasts - removal?

Actually two questions - first. I want to fully remove the factory ballasts from behind the bumper. I found the bracket the divides the two ballasts and the nut and bolt for the bracket. I can't find any other mount point that would be keeping them attached. What am I missing so I can fully remove them?

Second - I just installed aftermarket HIDs since the driver bulb was shot. Thanks Sierra3! The kit connects straight to the factory harness for the ballast power source for left and right. Lights come on just fine. No hiccups when driving. Time delay works as advertised. But if I leave them in auto lamp mode, when I restart the car later I get the "check headlights" message in the message center. I check them and they aren't on. Is there something else I need to add to regain the autolamp feature? Or is this one feature I sacrifice in order to get my lights working again?

^ is answer for one question, the answer for the autolamp feature is..... you aren't gonna like it....... forgetaboutit. Don't work with aftermarket HIDs.

I'm like a 6 year old, I like hitting buttons and switches. Can't remember ever using the auto lamp feature.

I'm with lownslow.. I'm still on stock bulbs, so everything works great. I'm now dreading the day this changes. My '86 had Autolamp, by golly.. my '97 will too. I love not having to think about turning on my headlamps..

I quit using the autolamp with my first Gen 1. The headlight reflectors burned easily on those, I didn't want to add any unnecessary extra baking time while the car was stopped.

I still have the original HID's on the 98, aftermarkets on the 97. I'll be taking the 97 out of storage today, I'll see if the autolamp works on that one when I get a chance.

Now this is the weird thing. It did it again while showing off to my parents. So I just adjusted the time on the autolamp to a different delay time. Suddenly they came on. Now I'm stumped.

I'm telling ya, they will NOT reliably work on autolamp. You may find a dead battery soon.....

Going on 4 years using autolamp, no dead batteries and they always fire. I DID have an issue with my drivers side hid not firing right away but it wasn't al related.

LowNSlow.... consider yourself lucky with your choice of aftermarket HID's! Tell everyone what brand you got and where you got 'em!

I went back and checked my pp records just for you. I bought the standard size 35w 9006 kit w/ 6k. They could've changed in 4 years but that's what I bought. It was on ebay, don't know if they still have a store or not.

I googled the ebay name and this is what came up...
