First time at the track

Well I took the Mark VIII to Toronto Motorsport park this weekend for the Canadian Street Car Nationals. I just ran in the Test & tune while my boys raced in the open ET class. I am a little disappointed with my time. My best run was 16.005 @ 89mph with my bone stock 97 LSC. The sad part is during me best run I was beat by a V8 LX but I don't think it was stock. I think I need to do some mods.

You may need some practice before you do some mods, or make sure you are running correctly stock. It takes practice to get a good launch

Yes I had the overdrive and the traction control off. I did have a slight lack of traction. A bit of wheel spin off the line and the 1/2 and 2/3 shift probably caused by my crap tires. I also stupidly forgot to remove the jack and spare tire. I can sure tell that this engine likes to rev, when those IMRCs open it just takes off with a wooosh. It is a shame that the Mark VIII didn't get the cobra bottom end.

The only difference in the bottom end is the crank.

What's a shame is that the Mark VIII didn't get the top end, the intake and cams.

A stock Gen 2, on decent tires, should be around 15 flat, you have some issues that you need to address.

I don't doubt that there are some issues in my car. It has 230000 Km on the odometer. I am just collecting the parts needed to swap the rear over to 5 X 4.5" bolt pattern and install a track lock unit. I think a new fuel pump should be on the agenda as well.

I agree. There is something going on. My buddy ran a 15.5 with a bone stock Grand Marquis with nothing more than dual exhaust pipes and a throttle body. That car has less horsepower than your Mark VIII and only has 16 valves as opposed to your 32.

You avoided the water box right? Try some better tires. Hooking up right off the line is the key to a great run! Even a 12 second car not getting traction will run a 16 second time. What was the tmp, humidity and elevation of the track?

My first early morning pass at the track one time spinning into second was a 15.1 :p

Drive AROUND the water box and just spin em for about 2 seconds to clean your tires off. And don't go to the track with bald street tires. If you aren't dead hooking with a stock Mark VIII there is a problem.
