Forward strut rod spacers

These were turned down from one solid piece, no welded washer. Nothing wrong with the welded washer method.. And you don't end up with a giant Brillo Pad of stainless. :)

The old logan holds pretty true, stainless isn't very forgiving and I took some deep cuts.
As you can tell by the giant stainless Brillo Pad on the floor it was consistent which isn't to bad for a machine built I 1944.

Sometimes the old machines are the best, love your chip tub! :)

Factory strut rod spacers are not available to purchase anymore. These keep the front strut rod bushing from being collapsed too far.
The originals for the most part are a 1 time use and I don't much care for the current aftermarket ones.
With the stainless I should never have to replace the spacer again.

Had to get that stuff out of the chip tray.. With the 8" chuck it doesn't take much to snatch it up out of the tray and get whipped with a big ball of stainless swarf = bad day infront of the lathe.
I filled 4 target bags with that stuff.

Sounds like a funny you tube video.
The 2 5/8 amce that runs 12 ft bars catches on fire on occasion from a big ball of stainless.
Clears out the shop in a hurry. :fart

Did you make these fancy parts just for your own car or were you thinking of selling them? I remember Doug saying they were a PITA to make and no one would want to pay what he would ask for them, but he was wrong... LOL

They are a PITA to make and being they are 1 piece vs a welded washer they are 5 times the PITA.
Given the time it takes I don't think it would be worth it to sell them, takes about a day and a half or so to turn them out.
I'm sure I could do them faster if that's all I did, the tube and washer method is much faster and someone is already selling those at a respectable price.

Doug was selling sets for $150. It is just allot of material to remove on a manual lathe.

The OEM sets are removable and reusable if you are carefull. Trick would be finding OEM bushings.

Doug was actually selling them for $175!

It's a decent amount of work, but I just couldn't bring myself to charge that much for them. My price is $135 shipped.

$135 is a good price and Jay does quality work.
One piece spacers would be significantly more and are no fun to make in any large quantity.
