My front R started rattling on my white 98 so I decided to put it up on the trailer and see what I could see. seems my Upper ball joint and strut rod bushings are both kinda loose. What brands do yall recommend for these parts? how much are they and wheres the best place to order from?

1.strut rod bushing suggestion
2.upper control arm or ball joint suggestion

UCL : Ford or TRW. Moog is also good.

Are you refering to the rear position rod busings? Go Ford if you can find it. I think they still sell them.

Rock Auto always has good pricing and you can order most if it at once time.

Do some searches in the suspension section. There are alott of threads onthis topic. Most opinions are that the Ford strut rod bushings are the best but they are getting hard to find. I think Fors discontinues the front bushing kit. Are you planning on doing this yourself?

Buy Ford bushings for the Strut Rod. I bought Autozone, and 3 months later they were torn and ripped. TRW and Moog are now the same, so Moog will be good. And you will be removing the LCA to get at all 8 bushings, so you might as well buy LCA's, also. If you have the air suspension still, you will need to buy the Mark VIII specific UCA, since it has the attachment point for the ride height sensors. To save a little money, search for the part under a 97 thunderbird, since they have the same LCA as us, and its almost always listed for cheaper under the Tbird.

turns out my strut rods weren't very loose so I just tightened them a bit. and installed the 2 new UCA's what a pain the nut by the master cylinder is...took almost as long as the hole rest of the job.

Damn. I just did a write up on this. With a ratchet wrench I had the left side of Barry's replaced in 33 minutes.

FORD strut rod bushings.
MOOG control arms. upper and lower.

if you're still clunking, check your sway bar end links. when mine went bad they made one hell of a racket.

after market are very different than OEM struts. You can see pics at American Air. The aftermarket struts can develop rattles. It happened to me.

Also, your rack can also cause a clunking noise. If you have higher miles, you can check it by pushing up and down on the inner tie rod.
