Fuel efficiency?

What kind of fuel mileage are you guys getting in your mark viiis?...my info center has my average mpg at around 14. It's said that for the longest time.

Does this seem low for a stock mark viii.

It's a 94, and I do mostly city driving.

Reset it. :) 14mpg isn't all that great, are you heavy on the throttle?

My normal commute is about 25 miles round trip, 90% is under 45mph with about 14 stoplights each way. The average according to the car is high 17/ low 18mpg. Calculated mpg is high 18 / low 19. I'd say about .6 difference on avg.

Lowered on coils, but otherwise a stock 97 lsc with oem wheels. Driving style= Sane

Seems low? I remember the '93 getting around 19 mpg mostly in the suburbs when it was a daily driver.

Stop and go driving kills fuel economy in these cars. You really can't compare one person's city driving to another's.

I always reset my average as soon as I get up to speed on the expressway, this gives me a good idea of the efficiency, and how well my cars are running.

I usually get around 26-28 on the xway to and from work, and up to 30 in excellent conditions, on a long xway trip, with my stock 94's.

This makes me feel better when I hammer on it, off the expressway, when I need to pass a slow minivan or just clear out the IMRC's.:D

i don't do much better than 14 mpg in the city.
lots of gear, heavy car, with an engine not exactly known for its torque.

My city/hi-way driving on a stock Mark was about 17-19 mpg.

Now with a modded car, my hi-way driving is getting me around 18 and city driving isn't something I'm comfortable talking about.

I don't know what mine is. I have 42# injectors, soon to be 80s. :p I heard corn is a bittersweet thing. It loves to make you smile as much as it loves to drain your wallet. LOL. I'm expecting a solid 10 mpg on corn. Eric, if your pump gas mileage gets lower than mine on corn I will truly consider you the craziest bastage alive. I've ridden with you. I can almost see it. Haha

In winter, with mostly just short trips around town here, with lots of stop lights/signs and traffic, I average somewhat just over 14. It goes up for highway, and I think I'm better in the summer. But my car has always run rich, and I never got as good gas mileage as some others. I usually reset it when I fill the tank up, which for me has been like once a month, unless I make a rare trip to the city, in which case the MPG goes up.

Jeremi has a very good point, and I also like to use the MPF (f-fun) average. Took me a while to reconcile my desire to be not wasteful of the things the earth gives us, but hey, sometimes a little self-indulgence is OK :)

Checked it again today and Im at 12.6 average now
The average is 16MPG city 23MPG highway a lot of things come into play to get maximum gas mileage good tires ,suspension and a properly tuned engine and last but not least a light foot. I had a poor MPG issue and found my air intake tube was partially clogged with a piece of a plastic shopping bag

I get 17 city 21 highway that's with 3.73 rear gear Posi Fresh tranny and a 2,800 stall converter your mileage may vary.
Just checked it last week as i took the car out of mothballs after rebuilding the trans.
And adding the 3.73 and posi and 2,800 stall converter.
I get on it at times but mostly at highway speeds.
Unless someone pulls up at a light and wants to go usually a lexus, bmw, Mercedes.
I basically drive my Corvette the same way.
The difference being unless they pull up with some serious machinery i just laugh.

You have a 22 year old car, what maintenance have you done? There could be one of many things that could be impacting MPG in a car that old.
I've only changed plugs, wires, coil packs, oil, trans filter, and switched to mercon v, and switched to k&N air filter.

I just replaced the slammed front air ride with coil springs a couple days ago, and the tires need aired up every week. I guess I can change the tires now that they're not rubbing the inside of the fenders when I turn

k&n air filters are known to get oil in the MAF sensors, clean the MAF sensor and use paper filters.
