So ive had some time to look at the pumps and everything and ive come to some weird discoveries
Delphi has 2 listed for the mark viiis under the same model number but neither work. The FE0583 I think it is, should be the only one on rock auto. Ive gotten 2 and one appears to have a check valve in the hole and the other doesnt. Both plugs are different so they cant be used without modification.
Carters appears to be OEM basically. No valve in the top.
The carter does have the right plug with no valve in the pump itself and holds pressure. So if basically the check valve is in the pump assembly.
Also on the assembly theres a small o ring on top that if it goes bad will leak pressure. I replaced the whole pump and assembly just because its probably at the end of its life anyway
