Very said with all the murdering of police officers lately. :frown:
It's just hype hitting the news. The media wants to make a big deal out of it because what's been happening recently. Law enforcement is still a safe profession -- as safe as it ever was. In fact, we're on pace to have fewer officer fatalities than last year (http://www.nleomf.org/facts/officer-fatalities-data/).

Someone out here might call me out saying that Peace Officers put their lives on the line, and surely they do... it's not an easy job, if done correctly, but that doesn't change the fact that PO deaths have been steadily declining since 1973. (http://fee.org/files/imglib/20150320_copsmillion1.png). Something even more surprising is that, out of the 100 cops that died in 2013 (out of nearly a million officers in this country), only 31 were shot (safe to assume, I think, that all of these were done on purpose), 11 were hit by a vehicle (most, but probably not all on purpose), 2 were stabbed (definitely safe to assume that it was on purpose), and 1 from defusing a bomb.

That leaves the rest: aircraft accident (1), automobile accident (28), motorcycle accident (4), falling (6), drowning (2), electrocution (1), and job-related illness (13). By the way, a large number of those automobile accidents occurred because seat belts weren't being worn.

Here's a breakdown on officer deaths over the past 10 years: http://www.nleomf.org/facts/officer-fatalities-data/causes.html

You two look good out there. Thank you both for your contributions.

Jesse, if you ever make it back to Minnesota, I still owe you Carbones..

What the heck. Mike, I'll buy for you too.
