General HRPT14 Info

I know JP has a thread but wanted to have a general info one as well. If you never have been on the tour or live near a city that is hosting a stop, I would strongly suggest it as it is a core item to check off on you "Car Guy (or Girl) Things to do Before I Die" list.

I have made it out to several stops over the years and it has been worth it every time. Someday I hope to make it as a "Long Hauler" (Drives their car to all the stops) but even just coming to one stop is allot of fun!

Here are the locations and dates.

-Saturday, June 7 Charlotte, NC zMAX Dragway-Charlotte Motor Spdwy 9am - 7pm
-Sunday, June 8 Knoxville, TN Chillhowee Park Noon - 7pm
-Monday, June 9 Charleston, WV Downtown (Kanawha Blvd) Noon - 7pm
-Tuesday, June 10 Norwalk, OH Summit Motorsports Park Noon - 7pm
-Wednesday, June 11 Crown Point, IN Lake County Fairgrounds Noon - 7pm
-Thursday, June 12 Bettendorf, IA The Isle Casino Noon - 7pm
-Friday, June 13 Wisconsin Dells Chula Vista Resort Noon - 7pm

More info here: http://www.familyevents.com/event/229 and no you don't have to enter your car or pay an entrance fee to hang out, drive the tour and see the cars. it really just gets you a sticker to park next to all the pretty cars.

I know a few of us MN guys will be picking up the tour in IA through WI. I will be in my Mark and would like to meet up somewhere in IA and cruise together to WI Dells on Friday. Thoughts?

Actually, if you guys are hooking up I'd suggest coming to where we are to hook up with them at lunch time in Lake Zurich, IL? I've made my plans, and registered (oops, didn't know all I can do is park my crap car next to the pretty ones), and right about there is where I hope to hook up with them. It's not too far out of your way, actually, unless you've gone home already from Carlisle.

All I need now is my car fixed up, a driver, and a pet sitter :)

Sharon: Get the Beerdog and Mark on the first problem, and the kid on the second.

Presto!

Well if I were going to Carlisle that would be a good option but I have to work that weekend, that is why I'm pushing the HRPT.

Tixer, 3 issues, but still preferable order :) (don't get all pissy beerdog, just kidding, you two should both do the 2 steps together)
Kid looks like he will have a job, and has agreed to #3, kinda a shame he won't be able to take pics though. Are you joining the HRPT at any time?

Eric, it's only actually 1/2 hour longer to get here than to Bettendorf, IA. Although it takes up your whole day (6 hour drive and hook up at I'm assuming noonish) unless anyone wants to come early and stay over Wed night. So, fine, I wasn't the best in Geography in school :)

Sounds like we need to arrange a rendezvous point outside of Bettendorf so we can roll into the venue as a team together.

Sounds like a plan, we'll figure it out when we get closer. We just need to convince Mike to call in sick to work so he can come.

Since I'm somewhat familiar with the Quad Cities (my mom and stepdad live there), I would strongly suggest we have breakfast at Ross's. It's this legendary little diner at the base of the I-74 bridge and has been there for 50 years. On August 1st this year, they're going to close due to a major project on the bridge. They're moving to a new location, but it won't be the same I'm sure. It's got a couple of 50s style U-shaped counters along with the usual booths. The selling point though, is the "Magic Mountain", which is this huge pile of breakfast stuff covered in gravy. Heart attack on a plate, but fantastic. Hell, even Barack Obama ate there! ;) It's also a great place to hang out after a night of carousing. The "Volcano" is a Magic Mountain, but covered in chili. Oh yeah, the chili! Best damned chili I've ever eaten in a restaurant. Nice and spicy. They'll even warn you when you order it that it's spicy. Easy to get to too.

I live about 45 min away from the quad cities and Bettendorf is where I work. I think we could travel together as there is a bunch of guys from my work that want to ride up together. It will be easier to pick a meeting point once the official routes are released.

Mark, I can appreciate a man who is passionate about their breakfasts..

Eric, it's not so much a matter of me "calling in sick," as it is "how many days do I call in sick.." (or just plain take off..) I still need to figure that out.. and if I'm driving home from Carlisle and back out, or simply skipping the whole week and "long-hauling" it up Driller-style.

I'm in. in some capacity. :D

Mike, I'd do the whole thing to if I were going to Carlisle. It's a great experience. I still have a room I can split on Thursday but still working on Friday night.

Sharon, for now it'll be just me. The wife has to go out to CA the week before and she doesn't think she can take more time off since she doesn't have vacation days. I'll get ahold of you later.

I'm game for any type of good eating, we will have to see how the day plays out.

Another friend from des Moines might be joining us plus there are 2 other cars (Mark and a mustang) with me as well.

For now I need to get my Mark back together...

I'm not opposed to room sharing, although I have no idea if my oxygen concentrator will be loud enough to annoy others.

Alright!

I don't know if you would want to wait for the caravan from IL but it would be neat for all the Lincolns to roll in together! :)

Is Ross's a 24 hour diner? You know how we roll... :D

Awesome idea! The Mrs. and I plan to return home Sunday evening from Carlisle and roll out to Charleston Monday morning.

You best get busy! :) I know how those last minute jobs go... LOL.

I haven't decided yet. When the route goes through Dixon and then to Rock Falls you're only about 10 miles from my house. It would be cool to roll in together but I was thinking about getting down there before the rest would be coming through. I am coming to Crown Point but I'm not staying the night gonna drive home cause I'm too cheap for a hotel.

Yep. I will agree the food is really good (all I have ever had is the Mountain) but it's not something I personally would eat then spend the next 4 hours in a car. As for dinner things Sport's Fan's and Hall of Fame (both really close to venue) have really good pizza and I really like The Filling Station.

I totally understand... most local to the venue like to go early before the arriving rush. Being about 2-1/2 hours from the WV stop, we plan to go early on Monday.

Hope to see you at Crown Point! :)

LOL... you may have a point there!

So I take it you plan on going to WI for Friday?

On another note... is anyone planning to be at the Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, OH for the Tuesday venue? They're scheduled to have 'fun runs' at the track there.

Yeah I was thinking about the Ross's thing, and it does tend to be pretty greasy, and maybe not the best thing before a long drive, although it is very popular with truckers. For the record, the Morning Mountain is actually what I was describing, with the sausage gravy. The Magic Mountain is the same thing but with cheese sauce. Honestly not my favorite. And the place is a little dirty. Hey, it's a truck stop. But yes, it's open 24/7.

I don't know, I haven't been there in years, but in my younger days, it was great chow at 3 AM. I'm having to watch what I eat now, too.
