Just purchased my first Lincoln.

I was looking for a luxury car with more room than my Mercedes C280 and decided on the Mark Viii.

I found many good deals but ran across a gold colored one at a used car lot.

I had never seen a gold Mark Viii and researched it on the web.

I went back to the lot and validated that it was a 1998 Spring Feature edition LSC, which is one of 2 known (from what I could find).

I contacted Ford and they said it is one of the rarest production cars Ford has built and is worth ~45K currently, so I went to the lot and purchased it for $3.3K.
I love the car, but now to my problem and reason for joining this site:

The fan air only comes out the defrost/floor no matter which button I push on the control unit ( I noticed this problem the day after purchase).

The more serious problem is that I don't have any heat!
It was 34degs this morning here is sunny California, but I was freezing in this car (decided to go home and take another car).

I really like the car, but this sucks, pls help.

Thanks!

It is not worth 45k. Maybe 4.5k. They are one of the rarest Mark 8's though. :)

No heat = Blend door actuator. $5-700 at the dealer or $50 and a day of work for you.

Don't know about the defrost problem, but iirc it has something to do with vaccum..

Welcome! :)

The 'defrost only' symptom is commonly caused by a vacuum leak to the EATC (climate control) module.

The 'no heat' symptom is a common issue of a broken blend door. Search the technical data using the "Lincoln Tech" button at the top of the page.

I didn't think it was really worth $45K, just relaying what the Ford Rep said...:)

I ran the self check= off+floor then automatic
the code is 888=OK

After that I decided to try the vent button and now its working normally (not sure why it wasn't working yesterday).....:)

I read thru tech posts and tried the temp fix of pulling down the gray lever and it worked great!

I push the leaver up for cold and pull down for heat!.....

I can live with this for the short term until I feel like I want to tackle the actuator arm replacement.....

After reading the posts, the "reinforcement" of the arm bushing doesn't seem like something I am inclined to do.

I will purchase a plastic replacement part and scan with my 3D laser scanner (it's good to 0.01"), import to 3D CAD and then revise to meet the dimensions of the plastic part.

I can then manufacture the part out of aluminum, so that I never have to worry about this again.

Thanks for the quick response to my inquiry!

I hoped you didn't actually think that. ;)

The self test won't catch the actuator cause the motor still work's, but the arm is broken. Seem's like you were able to figure out the temp fix for it. Good job and and welcome :)

scuba1x: Welcome to the site. If you would please, get some pics of your car and then start a thread in the New user introduction forum. Thanks.

Welcome! and congratulations on your new Mark VIII. As you have found, they have a few common quirks. Luckily, every one of them is well documented here. I'd post a link or two to some of the threads, but it looks like you've found the right information.

It is a rare color, only exterior color and gold lettering features, that is it, nothing with the drivetrain, etc, not worth much more to the general public then any other 98 Mark VIII unless you find a buyer who wants the rare gold color on a Mark VIII, they made 177, not 2, but still very rare for a production color.

Congrats on finding one, i hope you get the issues fixed.

Can read about it here http://www.lincolnsofdistinction.org/lincolntech/technical/98springfeature.html

And post up some photos !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The information provided by Ford is that 117 Spring feature cars were produced in a two week period from Feb 9-Feb 21, 1998.

Only 49 had the Light Prairie interior.

Out of the the 49 only 2 were produced as LSC, as the Spring Feature was a base model and the LSC were an anomaly, according to Ford. Which makes this one of the rarest production cars produced by Ford.

The estimated value provided by Ford historian is for the collector market only, not KBB.

The other Spring Feature LSC is currently for sale with an asking of $45K.

I doubt that it will bring in that actual purchase price.

I have dealt in the collector market extensively owning/selling many classic trucks, ferrari's and other vehicles. The collector market values generally far exceed actual KBB (or street value).

I don't plan on selling this vehicle, but will follow the sale of the other LSC, as I am in contact with the seller directly.

Best Regards

Well, if you've got an LSC, and that guy's got an LSC, and there were only 2 made, how did Jamie part one out? There must have been at least 3...

But probably more than that. Throughout the years on these forums, I've seen so much misinformation thrown around, it's not surprising.

Anyway, I'd be pretty interested in seeing your 3D scanner set up. Do you also have CNC equipment? If so, do you have the capability to work in volume? Not large volumes, but more than just a couple...

I may have a project for you if so...

I spied a few times on the road a spring car about 10 years ago locally by my old job, it was an LSC as well. :)

I looked up jamies and it appears by the pics his was a base of the same color. This one is one of 2 lsc's.

There were a total of about 39/40 Spring Features made as an LSC. Ford corporate approve the trim package on the base only, but since all of the 117 vehicle produced were ordered by dealers for stock, some LSC's slipped thru.

what is the source of the data that 39/40 were made as LSC? Ford states that only 2 slipped thru, but maybe that is not correct?

Thanks
